8GB SanDisk flash drive thinks it's a hard disk (Local Disk)!

It seems like some SanDisk flash drives get mistaken as hard drives for some odd reason. And it has to do with the flash drive itself as the problem is not computer dependent. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- When posting comments, please abide by the appropriate comments policy. 5. this happens with all sandisk usbs, even mine
  6. Have you figured out how to fix it? It's really irritating. I can't get a nice bootable USB with Remix OS on it : ' |
  7. My External Hard drive shows as a local disk too and the files which were in it were deleted and it shows O bytes are free and 0 Bytes are used
And i cant copy any files to the hard drive anymore
  8. im having problem trying to get it to boot cause it not a HDD and its removable that act like one. so mess up. i put windows xp on it and it does not booot.. wtf..
this is because its a USB, not a local disk
i dont like sandisk. i got only 1 thought 16gb santa cruizer
  9. am using an windows 8.1 if i change it will i able to install winstore app to new Local Disk that i made
  10. Just one more thing Microsoft has convinced a supplier to do which favors them while blocking Linux users from using the device to create LIVE USB boot drives for Linux distros. Add Secure Boot into all that and it's more than obvious, in spite of the Lies MSFT is spewing, they are doing all the can to interfere with Linux users. Microsoft wants to own it all, have it all their own way, to hell with the rest of the computer world.
  11. I Have Same Problem... I can't boot from this pendrive (i have sandisk 8gb pendrive)...
  12. this is mainly for XP users, uploaded video a while ago (http://www.youtube/watch?v=cIKacORR23U)
    {also right click+ open it in a new window (daft)}
  13. I have another question/story to tell. Today I bought a brand new SanDisk 64GB flash drive at WalMart and I already had another 64GB flash drive that I had since July of 2014 and when I plugged both drives in I noticed that the drive that I've just bought had 1.4GB LESS than than the one I had since July of 2014. The old drive has a total of 59.6GB and the new drive has a total of 58.2GB and I didn't put any data on my new drive yet. Is this normal or should I return/exchange the drive. I'll post a picture on your Facebook page to show you. I still have the original receipt and packaging just in case you suggest that I should return/exchange it. I want to know what I should do before I save data on the drive.

    Thank You.
  14. Sorry for the misinformation. I didn't know what I was talking about; and I couldn't reproduce the conversion of a USB to a hard disk. The chip specific removable bit is the only thing that matters for Windows.
  15. This is actually pretty common nowadays.. They've done this because the usb driver for removal devices is rather limited.

Local drives allow partitioning, dual boot, Windows2Go and all of that stuff, so yeah. This is the way to bypas those limitations.
  16. I have three sandisk extreme flash drives (16GB / 32GB) that all report as hard drives because their "removable bit" is set that way. I've heard that this was done to comply with Microsoft requirements for Windows to Go. Windows to Go is a windows install on a flash drive that you can get as part of an enterprise installation.

Had I known about it I probably wouldn't have bought them but for files and such they are pretty good. Also, you can reset the "removeable bit" by using some specialized software that will tell you the chipset you are using and then downloading a special tool (based off of your specific chipset) to reset it. However, this is only possible on certain drives and it could brick the flash drive.
  17. Same here with my sandisk 32gb, Its pointless to use now...
  18. I've seen this with larger flash drives (usually 32 GB or so, sometimes 16 GB), but never an 8 GB.
  19. I actually do have a flash drive that does this exact same thing and mine is a 32gb.
  20. Install OS 2 USB Drive
    Internal HDD = Storage
USB Drive With OS Required 2 Boot System.
    Security Feature?
    ...
Could Use USB Drive As Bootable Trouble Shooting Tool Storage.
