Change or Reset Forgotten Windows 7 or Vista Password with Linux (Ubuntu)

------------------------------ Click "Show More" -------------------------------------- To Change Password for a windows 7 or vista account. boot to linux and rename C:\windows\system32\Utilman.exe to Utilman1.exe Then copy C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe and rename the copy to Utilman.exe boot back to windows and click the ease of access button @ the command prompt type compmgmt.msc when you have changed you password boot back to linux delete C:\windows\system32\Utilman.exe and rename C:\windows\system32\Utilman1.exe to Utilman.exe Alternative Method Once Command Prompt is open, type in "net user" and hit enter. This will display all user accounts. Now type in the following command: " net user (ACCOUNTNAME) * "and hit enter Now it will ask for a new password, enter a password and hit enter (PASSWORD WILL NOT BE DISPLAYED SO MAKE SURE THERE ISN'T ANY TYPOS) Now it will ask you to confirm the password, Simply type in the password again and hit enter.   7. hey ,if anyone else wants to learn about forgot login password on laptop try Megarno Password Magician (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my mate got excellent success with it.

  9. did not work for me on vista got the comand promt up entered in the info got the window up but i didnt have local users and groups showed up when i did find users it was empty

Hello sir, i want to thank you very much for this Tutorial, i acquired a computer from my father and it was on a domain from his work, so i removed it from the domain but it brought me to a Admin screen logging in and i did not know the password.     I did wit-out linux dvd just restart  your pc the option repair my pc the i get acces to system 32 and change file like this video.

  16. Very smart move ! i would like to add something if the username is not Administrator then you can control and access the PC by activating the Administrator account by executing this line in the Cmd :
    To enable Administrator account Type: net user administrator /active:yes
  17. I just figured I'd replace the stickykeys keyboard shortcut to the cmd by changing name.. it worked, my CMD showed up in windows when hitting stickykey shortcuts! Was able to reset all passwords by then opening a CMD as admin from the pre login administrator account :-) Not sure if it'll work for others. I'm on Vista.

  20. Using Home 7 and MMC does not have Local Users and Groups under system tools. What do I do to get around this.
