http://cnet.co/1jzyBlE The default data wipe tool in Android may not be enough to permanently eliminate personal data on your old device. CNET's Dan Graziano shows you how to properly wipe your Android smartphones and tablets.

  5. Android needs to implement a proper wipe, since flash memory is being used, it is possible to fully erase all data with 2 or so passes (to make sure the wear leveling has a chance to wipe all cells. Unlike hard drives which use a special head to read magnetic fields which even if erased, can have residual magnetic fields available that can be read by some applications which can directly access the hard drive and disable all error correction and read the raw data from the read heads, that can be interpreted to recover some data.

For the hard drives built in hardware, a single random data overwrite is enough to remove all data beyond the hard drives own read/ write heads to recover anything.

On an SSD, it is possible to fully erase a memory sell with a single pass, but multiple zero passes are recommended since SSD's use over provisioning in order for the wear leveling to function and ensure that all cells are used up at about the same rate. Multiple passes can ensure that no data will remain on any user accessible cells.
  6. I don't save contact to my phone or save picture to internal memory
  7. Good to know if you are getting rid of an old phone.
  8. I facory reseted an old phone of mine and i noticed that folders and app data were still there, so i deleted all my files except Android floders. Is my personal data still accessible?
  9. With iOS its 1 step away to a wipe.

Android, 2 steps. If you get malware (which i did since i donwload a lot free games an most arent what tgey claim to fakes or look-a-like) it won't get remove if u factory reset cause I tried it 3x an still my device act on its own like someone controlling it or mimicing my commands sobI just got a antivirus app to get rid of it an never got a issue since then but like he said just factory reset won't completely erase your data on android os.

IPhone is again #1 when it comes to safty! Just try to recover a iPhone that's been factory reseted an you never get anything out of it even with a jailbrake.
  10. its already backed up on Google and NSA. no point
