I bought a used phone years ago and it had been factory reset; however, many of the other person's contacts and photos were still on the phone...

Imma start buying some used phones and get me some nude pics. Nah Jk.

Well, seeing how a factory reset doesn't erase the internal SD card partition on most phones (which is where photos are usually stored), DUH! You have to delete that yourself.
-
Can I kiss you? You have lovely lips.

Like I said before, iPhone is a lot safer to have...once its clean, its clean.
I figure much that left over data still roam inside android after a factory since I got malware once before an try to get rid of it with factory reset but the malware didn't go away when I did over 2x! I got anti-virus app to remove it an had no issue since then.
Again iPhone still wins! Android fanboy don't make it hard on yourself -
And
