This is how you can configure Software RAID 0 Microsoft Windows 8 in a lightweight tutorial. RAID 0 through software RAID offers a striping effect to ensure you data is striped across both disks without the need for costly hardware and is totally free as part of the latest windows offering you high performance. Also ensure to backup your data when using RAID 0 as if a single disk fallsover you will probably loose all data.

  1. what kind of disks that have only 5GB?
  2. Awesome! So helpful, Thanks!
  3. how do you know whats the stripped size
  4. +Javier Acrich It is possible to do it on the C drive, however you would need to image backup your C drive and create the RAID array before installing windows on (or restoring the backup)
  5. Hey Matt, thank you for your video!! it is really helpful. I have a question though, I see that you are not using the 'c' unit for the raid 0. You are making the raid 0 with the 3 unallocated disks. Is this also possible if you want to make a raid 0 with disk 0 (where windows is installed) and disk 1 (unallocated) ?
  6. I wonder if there is a way to mount raid 0 drives in some easy way
  7. Thanks for this! Super simple video! Super helpful!
  8. If anyone doesn't know how to make their disk "unallocated," right click on on the drive and select "Delete Volume"
  9. my two have small x marks in the top left corner
  10. Thanks for the info. Your video was exactly what I was looking for. I set up my raid 0 but could not find them on my computer. Your video told me how to find them. Great video. Thanks again. Jason
  11. how do u make them "unallocated"
  12. Hey, cheers for the tutorial, gona try it as soon I arrive home.
I´ve been trying to set up RAID 0 with one PC. Thing is I got stuck. Situation is like.
BIOS detects both disks correctly , so  I´ve made changes in BIOS that I want to use RAID (just RAID, because I could not seen any sort of option what type of RAID). Changed I want to boot from the CD.
Rebooted. Windows installer came out. BUT then the issue occures. It want me to boot from some X: drive which I have no idea what it is. It doesnt see CD drive, even it is booted from it. Even I browse for drives I can see nothing just some error type, that there is nothing correct to boot from (or something like that).
I have to abort the installation.. once I change setting to previous (not ussing RAID, boot from HDD ), I can boot properly ..
Thing is CD must be OK, since I ´ve made installation of my Win8 with it.
    CD = DVD ..
    Any clue ?

I hate windows 8.  Im still messing with RAID 0.  I don't know what its like on some of these motherboards but I heard the built in raid features suck on motherboards.  I cant say anything because I haven't messed with it yet.

Whats wrong with windows 8.1?  Im using Pro version.  We can do without the fancy book album feature for pictures.  That's what this feels like using it.  I feel like Im using Pinnacle studio or something when Im in the start menu.
  14. Hi Matt, thanks for posting this. I just ordered a custom Qosmio laptop. It's got Windows 8.1 with a 256GB SSD and 2 matching 500GB 7200rpm drives. I'm wondering if I can stripe between the two matching drives (RAID 0) without reinstalling the OS. And if so, is there software I need to install to enable the RAID. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Todd
  15. How do you create the Raid 0 drives before installing windows 8?

    Great video though
  16. I dont even have 'computer' in my apps and cant find where to search for it goddamnit.
  17. Have you converted the disks to dynamic like in the video?
  18. You need to create the Array before installing the OS. Too much to type here but type 'Create Software RAID before Install Windows 7' to Google should get your answer pretty easily! Good Luck. Take a backup before you start!
