This is how you can configure Software RAID 1 Microsoft Windows 8 in a lightweight tutorial. RAID 1 through software RAID offers a mirroring effect to ensure you data is on both disks without the need for costly hardware and is totally free as part of the latest windows offering you free redundancy. Any questions please ask. Hope you enjoy the video :)

  1. I know this is not a windows problem, Or is it !
What if a RAID was working well in a 4-drive NAS box. And the box fails only to realise it runs linux internal. None of the drives are accessible to windows as a result. I could have 100 HD's all identical and none can be used in windows without windows changing them in some way.

If anyone linux inclined, Maybe you could shed some light on how to use these drives in windows? Please please please.

I have tried the windows equivalent of FDISK and I think I have already changed one of them for the worse.

My next attempt will be live Linux MINT 10.2(i think), Using the drive as a USB external to recover. But I really don't know what im doing here. And I dont really know the right questions to ask.
  2. How do you do this on an UEFI system?
  3. can't do mirror on "System Reserved" Part. Does it mean i can't boot with mirrored drive if the main drive fails?
  4. I do everything u say but when i right click on disc there is no add mirror option?
  5. Thanks mate ;)
  6. Perfect! Youve answered all my questions in only a handful of minutes... THANK YOU!
  7. can we do it on virtual disks?
  8. Very useful!
  9. Very useful!
  10. This video was super awesome...though these options seem to have removed for Windows 8.1? Have you tried doing this on Windows 8.1?
  11. you ust have 8.1 PRO to do a mirror
  12. How would you know when 1 disk fails?
  13. Awesome. This was really useful.
  14. What about EFI system partition and recovery partitions?
  15. This was very useful and straightforward! Just what I needed!
  16. What version of Windows 8 do you need for RAID configuration?
  17. Thnx for keeping up a good pace! Random tutorials are often waaaay too slow :)
  18. I have two 1T drives the first one is my C drive and is running. I added the 2nd drive and now I want to "mirrow" my "C" drive to my new "D" drive but don't get that option. So it looks like I have to make my "C" drive dynamic, what will happen to the data and the OS?
  19. HI! Thanks for the tutorial, but I have one problem, there is no mirror button in my Windows 8 which I could click on. Do you have any idea why?
    Thank you, Quinten
  20. This feature (RAID with dynamic disks) is actually deprecated as of Windows 8. You probably want to use the new feature called "Storage Spaces" with which you can achieve the same result.
