This is how you can configure Storage Pools on Windows 8 in a lightweight tutorial. Storage pools gives the effect of raid arrays without the need for costly hardware and is totally free as part of the latest windows offering you free redundancy. Any questions please ask. Hope you enjoy the video :)

  1. Good, had trouble with this, I'm new to Win.8 Thanks!
  2. Went from Server 2012 R2 to 8.1 Pro cause I wanted a legit copy of Windows for a small home server (without spending near $1000AU) saw that I couldn't do RAID 5 in 8.1 went back to Server 2012 R2 now I'm gonna have to go back to 8.1 Pro xD I wish I had seen this first but even in the Microsoft forums they said they didn't do RAID 5 on Win8.1 -.- god MS are hopeless sometimes, does this method (storage pools) still have the data retrieval capabilities of software RAID 5 as if it were done via disk management on Win Server?
  3. flash drives dont work
  4. Does this work with Windows 8.1 Pro?
  5. Which is RAID 5?
  6. A humble request from all the viewers please don't try it.. If you don't know about it..By this i had lost my 4Tb  collected data  my hard work of 2 years  T_T ...
  7. how do you raid 0 i dont see the opt
  8. I love how short and straight to the point this video is, no bollocks or gimmicks. Hell yeah dude, so glad you made this video!
  9. Might want increase your audio volume, can barely hear you on my set up
  10. Matt I cannot thank you enough for posting this. I don't normally comment on Youtube videos but I searched for a very long time to figure out how to software RAID 5 my 4x4TB drives. Apparently the controller on my motherboard can do RAID 10 but it was only showing 1.8TB per drive until I made a RAID, then the other 2.2TB showed up, but of course I couldn't get all 4TB at once. This worked wonderfully!
  11. can soeone PLEASE help...
i did this but then removed it and now i cant find my device

    no matter what i do
  12. Thank you!
  13. Depends what array you use. You can with some yes.
  14. Ok, you just created a software raid. what would you do if the operating system get crashed? does array remain?? can you access it with a different OS and get the data back?
  15. If you have removed the RAID and reinstalled the OS than it is likely it is totally lost. If you havent done this and its just blue screen with the RAID array then keep the old Array and boot via Linux to copy your files off. Software RAID and Hardware RAID can't be swapped between it just doesn't work like that.
  16. I have a question. I had a raid 0 setup on my old Asus motherboard I upgraded the motherboard and installed the same HHD into the new system I installed Windows 8 but forgot to change the Sata Configure to Raid When I change it to RAID now, its recognizes my RAID 0 config, but I get constant blue screen. Changed back to ACHI and no more blue screen. Would a soft RAID recover the data on my RAID 0?
  17. I wasn't able to use the traditional Windows RAID-5 option in Disk Management (it was grayed out) despite them being dynamic disks. I followed this tutorial but it said there were no disks available despite having 3x blank 3TB drives. What I have found is that disc must be basic disks for this to work. Dynamic disks will not show up when creating storage pools. Once I converted the disks back to basic and removed the volumes they showed up in storage space.
