Have you ever imported files to Adobe Lightroom, only to have them look corrupted moments later? Or perhaps the files looked fine on camera, but now when you import them they're clearly damaged? What happened? This video explores the some of the ways you might discover a corrupted file, and explains why, when Lightroom briefly shows the file as fine before the damage becomes clear, it's not actually Lightroom damaging the file. I also explain why a corrupted file may look fine in Photo Mechanic, and damaged in other applications. This is a companion video for my blog post at http://protogtech.com/adobe-lightroom/images-appear-fine-then-suddenly-corrupted-in-lightroom ProTogTech Blog: http://protogtech.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ProTogTech Google+: https://plus.google.com/+Protogtech/posts Twitter: https://twitter.com/protogtech Youtube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/Protogtech

  1. Thank you thank you!! bought a cheep card reader and shot some images at crufts 2017 thought they were going to be all corrupt. The solution take memory card out and put back it back in!!!! that simple. Oh and then buy a good one of corse!!

  3. I have the same issue. formatted the card already and never knew the photos were corrupted.. I need to atleast save the JPEG images.. they are wedding pictures.. and what resolution Do I get if I save it through PHOTO MECHANIC.. need help..!! thanks
  4. Thanks for the explication!! I have the same problem. One day, when I opened Lightroom,
    there are, old and new photos with the same problem.
     It's frustrating
  5. I have experienced this problem. The answer that I found was to slow down. It doesn't matter which camera or card reader, the problem is the same. The corruption happens because your computer has not fully read those imbedded JPEG previews and then you begin copying the images to you computer. If you start copying before the computer finishes reading ALL the previews from your card or camera, you interrupt it and what you get is a raw image that is not completely loaded, hence the corrupted looking image shown in this video. So, slow down a lot. Once you connect your card to your computer, before you begin copying or importing into LR, verify that you can see every single JPEG preview, and then wait a couple of minutes. After that you can copy the images to your computer from your card or import them into LR. And be sure the copy or import is complete before doing anything more. I can't say this is always the problem or fix, but this is what consistently works for me.
  6. Thank you for this video. I connected my camera to the computer by cable and the files were okay thank goodness
  7. I need help!!
    I'm having this problem with 80% of my photos and I need help. I have the newest updated Lightroom btw.
  8. My images were turning out similar to those in this video. I managed to identify my problem - I have been using a cheap eBay SD-USB3.0 converter. This works a treat for my jpegs, but corrupts 80% of my raw files.

    My solution was to use the supplied USB cable to transfer the images to my computer. The previously corrupted raw files (which I copied out) work flawlessly when copyed to my computer via the cable. Hope this helps!
  9. Thanks for the informative video! I would suggest editing your audio to cut out any smacking sounds in the future, really horrible for headphone users.
  10. Kind of same thing is happening to me with my Canon 6d. When using the card slot on a Macbook Pro the RAW files even can't be transfered to the desktop. It says "Import error (-9912) an error ocurred while importing". The card in question is a Sandisk SDHC Ultra Plus 32Gb...but when using the USB cable it works fine. Check that option, hope it works for you.
  11. I took some pictures today with my Canon 5DMKIII with the 85mm 1.2L II USM on it.
    When i came home i was curious how i did the shoot so i exported the files from my LEXAR 64GB 800x CF-CARD to my external Lacie drive, then imported them from that Lacie-drive to LIGHTROOM 6.1.1. where i noticed that they were looking like in this youtube video (only a couple of them survived without weird colors over it).

    I started searching on the internet and came to this youtube-video.
    After also reading in the comments i started testing what i could do to solve this problem.

    First of all i made a new map on my hard drive and imported them again from my LEXAR 64GB (800x) CARD, result => same problem.

    Second test was making extra pictures on that same CF-CARD (without erasing the other pictures) and then imported them into LR, result => same problem.

    Third test, i was thinking "maybe it's my Lacie-harddrive that is corrupted", so i imported the pictures into Lightroom when the map with the files was located on my desktop.
    Result => same problem

    LAST TEST, i put a different CF-CARD, a SANDISK 32GB (50MB/s)in my camera, one that i have longer than the LEXAR, and after import in LR => good RAW-files!!!
    Result ====>>> PROBLEM SOLVED !!
    (onmy i have to get the corrupted files from the LEXAR CF-CARD fixed, but that's another problem... )

    So i hope that i still have my receipt from when i bought the LEXAR CF-CARD and hope to get a different one if it's still under warranty, wish me luck :-D .

    I hope this could help others also.
  12. I just experienced this. I'm shaking a little because this was an important shoot. I used a brand new Lexar professional 64 GB cf card and updated the firmware to my Canon 5d mark ii before inserting the card. Then I formatted the card in-camera and did the shoot. I used a pixelflash 3.0 usb card reader to do the transfer and ALL of the raw files came out corrupted. Please tell me I can just buy another CF card reader, re-insert the card, and transfer again with clean files. I also shot JPG along with the RAW so, I'm thinking I can use those worst case.
  13. what the hell was that ending to the video, also is you slap yourself at 8:06?????????
  14. it would be great if you you cut this video down to about 3 mins instead of 9 ... like you said
  15. I had shoot around 400 pics. all are corrupted.
    I want at least clear jpg images. how can I do .
  16. please help me out
  17. Ya same thing has happened with me .
    I had done a wedding shoot (in raw only) but .
    now I am not able to give them the images. and I am in a big problem. at least can I get jpg of such images
  18. PrologTech. this has been happening to me all the way back to 2008 images . three different computers, 3-4 different card readers. the RAW images do not always come in corrupted via PH Bridge or LR. (pick a version) I just downloaded about 9 months of images and on my main expensive on steroid PC many many images got corrupted . the corruption can pop up mnths or years later when I look at previews in either PH CC or LR. the only place they do not nor have ever corrupted is when I download them ( same card reader or readers. ) into an old lap top that runs "Vista" and the only reason I still have that lap top is a back up to these photos. any other ideas. the PH forums have been useless. . thanks
  19. Tnanks! At least I could save my JPG!
  20. Thanks for the tip. Replacing the old card reader with a new one did the trick :)
