Create Windows System Image and Mount VHD Image to Recover Data Files In this video I will show you how to restore files and folders from a windows 7 system image VHD file. You can create a windows system image, which will contain a copy of Windows and copies of your programs, system settings, and files. The system image should be stored in a separate location ie: a external hard drive. http://www.briteccomputers.co.uk

  1. if i have a game in my vhd file and take the game folder to my normal HDD can i play it then?
  2. Thanks alot! You saved me a lot of agravation. I did system image backup. Couldn't reload it the normal way through windows recovery. Keep giving error. I tried your back door way by attaching and detaching VHD file in the file management area. I could now look at my system image and  cherry pick the files i wanted. Wow a whole week of agravation and this was all i had to do. Windows really suck. The average user would never of figured this out and they shouldn't have to.  Whats even scarier is that i honest thought there was something wrong with my back up or my machine. I even bought a stupid system regestry fix wasting 50Us dollars.
There is no reason why Microsoft should of sold a product with such a big flaw. Luckly for me i just had pics and music backed up but what if i had really really important stuff on my machine? When you are backing stuff up the back up has to be reliable.
  3. Thanks Roger, have a great weekend.
  4. Good video
  5. your welcome
  6. it's the same for vhdx on windows 8) thx for your video! you save me
  7. What's the program that reads the VHD files? When yours show up at around 3:30, they have blue squarish icons next to them. Mine look like a blank white page with a corner turned down - the icon that shows up when I don't have the program needed to open a file. When I select my larger VHD file and click OK, it says there's a file system limitation and the operation can't be completed.
  8. But the problem i'm having, is how do I essentially make a copy of my old hard drive's files and move them to my new hard drive. I want the new hard drive to look exactly the same as my old one, but with more space

  20. You should do a detailed video on Windows 7 built-in backup tool. I know it uses ShadowCopy to do its backup so that the backup can be done while the OS is in use. Can this backup be set to do automatic incremental backups so that it behaves like Mac's Timemachine? If Windows has crashed and in need of a complete reinstall, can this backup be use to put it back like Ghost? I think Windows' backup tool is the least understood tool that can be a life saver. Once again, great job, Bri.
