In this walk through, I demonstrate how to prepare a USB drive for flashing and updating the BIOS with the latest build. As of January 9th, 2010, the latest build is 1203. I am using the Asus EeePC 1005HA. Please pay close attention to this tutorial if your model of EeePC is different as you will need to make some slight changes to the .rom file. Get your updates from http://support.asus.com As always, you are responsible for all things you expose your system to. Follow this guide at your own risk and with caution. Apologies for the cloudy footage. I will clarify any part of this video whenever needed, if possible. UPDATE (3-25-2011): For the latest drivers and the BIOS utility (that will help flash the BIOS), see http://www.asus.com/Eee/Eee_PC/Eee_PC_1005HA_Seashell/#download. Choose your operating system under the Download tab and download the latest BIOS updates and/or the BIOS utility. Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYGYLenu8Qg

  1. For old laptops ASUS X101H and other same, if your BIOS UPDATER isn't work and every time "reading file" and nothing more happening, do that: Format your flash drive (usb-drive) (Attention! It DELETE ALL YOUR DATA FROM USB) as FAT (filesystem) not as FAT32, not NTFS, not ExFAT! Delete all files if your drive already have Fat fs or (after formating completed) insert only .ROM file, and start update on your laptop, all should be work fine.
  2. WARNING: Since this guy does NOT know the difference between a FORMAT and a QUICK FORMAT.... you should get your advice elsewhere! ALSO, Asus states it's supposed to be formatted in FAT16 or 32, not NTFS... to maintain byte size compatibility with the .ROM file itself.

    Got dat, JACKASS?
  3. crap video, very fuzzy, and your voice is very boring, and sounds like you smoke 100 cigarettes a day
  4. Hi I need to ask, do I need to download all the Bios updates in the page of asus or just the latest is enough?
  5. Прошил 1015PD, используя SD 32Mb. Где-то предлагали создать на USB, небольшой логический раздел, метров 10.
  6. One more thing you should mention...

4gb flash drives will not work, no mater how you format them! You need a mb - 1gb flash drive for this, it must be formatted at Fat with Default Allocation Size.

I used my old Corsair 128mb flash drive, Fat, Default Allocation Size, Full Format, renamed the file as instructed, and it works.

If the process seems to hang on reading the USB drive, once you have entered the flash screen (ALT + F2), give it a minute or so then power down, be sure you are using a small flash drive (1gb or less) and you have it formatted correctly, as I have detailed here.

  9. Well It didn't work for me with my 4gb and 16GB USB with the same settings and name, I tried all the BIOS above BIOS v0801 all returned with 1005HA.ROM NOT FOUND and looped until restart. Then after a day triing I found MicroSD with 512MB did the same settings, copied BIOS v1601 renamed 1005HA.ROM and worked perfectly. I needed It for better wifi performance.
(FYI: Anyone having an Asus Eee PC 1001HA like me, has to rename the rom file to 1005HA.ROM not 1001HA.ROM  #justasusthings )
  10. Thank you, it is helpful :)
  11. Meu amigo muito obrigado salvou o meu dia. deu tudo certo.
  12. Works well on 1000H! Cheers
  13. Would this work on my 1005HAB?
  14. Has anyone updated the BIOS on a 1215N? The BIOS Updater from ASUS doesn't want to work.
  15. Didnt work for my "Asus Eee pc 1001px Seashell" with FAT32. Finally found out I had to select standard FAT (16) when formatting USB drive. Now upgrading RAM and SSD HD :-)
  16. Thank you for the help!
  17. Hi. Just wanna say thank you for showing us how to update the eee's on the easy way ^^, Also wanna share my experience with the annoying USBpen who failed if you format it as FAT32. Then this happened: Reading 1005P.rom... Could not find 1005P.rom Reading 1005P.rom... Could not find 1005P.rom It found it, then it didn't find it! xD A weird error, but you'll avoid it by formatting the USBpen with only FAT (FAT16).
  18. If you have a recovery partition use that (click f9 at start ) if you dont have a recovery partition you need a CDROM RECOVERY. theres alot! so your ok. you can use external dvd rom, you can also use a program to turn the .iso file (the one you downloaded) into a USB DRIVE FLASH FORMAT. I think you can also just install through ubuntu and avoid all the hassle i mentioned lol... just search online your model
  19. "I just yank it out" "never had problems in 10 yrs" Me niether... untill i did lol, however many tools exists (like EASUS recovery) or something fully recovers the data since apparantly usually its not atual data corruption but a file system data loss or somthing.. if you wanna see it in action keep yanking that thing out while your coping files to/from it lol... =P Thanks for your video man :) if you need a free data deletion .exe file msg me! (it also fixes "yanking it out" problems)
  20. How do I restore my eeepc sea shell series back to fatory settings? my computer has ubuntu
