Today I'm setting up a new install of Windows Server 2012R2 on an unused Dell server. Our file and application server is growing overly old in the tooth and is beginning to fail. In this video the aim is to provide a level of redundancy for that server and a safe place for the data and apps to be transferred to. I start by installing 4 brand new WD Black 1TB hard drives in the server and setting up a raid 10 array. Then I'm installing windows server and configuring the operating system. I'll take you through my process for setting a server up and implementing it to the domain. The video will show how I deploy the share via group policy and will give you a better understanding of how to transfer data with xcopy. At the end of the video, you'll see a fully working and mapped shared area for use by students and staff on this network. New applications will be installed to the "Apps" share in the future. I hope you enjoy the video, please like, subscribe and share my videos if you like them. as always i'll see you next time. Jake Facebook Page Here: https://www.facebook.com/jakebillingonyoutube/

  1. is this use of all physical servers still a common practice ? only asking as the school i have started work at as an apprentice uses virtual hosts with all of individual servers running on them
  2. What's the green toolbar showing graphics, network bandwidth something like this ? I use something like this one but on Ubuntu. thanks
  3. +Jake billing Did you setup shadow copy? could u do a vid on it?
  4. Quick Question:

Have you tried using Gunnar Computer Glasses.
  5. I have a question, when you need to activate windows or office in a computer : do you buy the number of keys that you need or you have a kind of key that can be activate several times ? sorry for my english i'm french...
  6. +Jake Billing When you said the network was being taken over by a larger IT company, is the name of this company RM??
Just wondering, since i know ALL of the schools near me, including mine, are managed by RM.
  7. "D:\Shared\Staff" has a Everyone group with (Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, and Read) permission enabled. Shouldn't you have removed the "Everyone" group in the NTFS permission settings for the "D:\Shared\Staff" folder if you do not want any students to browse it?
  8. Good video, as someone who also works in IT security I would strongly recommended that you leave password complexity turned on and refrain using the built-in domain Administrator account for anything. Lock that account down and create separate dedicated administrative accounts for yourself and fellow IT staff.
  9. Do you install Impero on all the servers?
  10. On your shared folders you had the everyone permission group on your student and staff folder with read/execute permissions....
  11. Great video. Im currently in my first IT job and have been for 3 years. Im looking at moving to a bigger company and learning the ropes of networking. I currently repair mainly domestic users computers.
