It's a lot faster than downloading Windows 10 and running the Media Creation Tool... we'll talk about those soon. Don't forget to back up your files first!!! So basically can you breakdown what these hubs do (like the Samsung Smart Hub and Wemo ...) and do I even need them?" Great question! We've got a big breakdown in the video, from explaining Zigbee and Z-Wave, plus some of our favorite picks for controlling your home (and why you might not love the expereince of setting it up) Definately read PCMag's roundup of Best Hubs for 2015: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2468647,00.asp . 22:00 - New Google Chromecast: Shannon finally got to test her new Google Chromecast. Denise writes, "Just upgraded my RAM from 4gb (2x2gb) to 8gb (2x4gb). I was wondering if I should also use the original 2 sticks and have a total of 12gb of RAM. They have similar timings (8,8,8,24), however the voltage of the ram is different 1.5v and 1.6v. What do you think I should do? Will it even work? " We got tons of info on RAM mixing dos and don'ts in the video! 28:30 - Comcast Data Cap: Frustrated With Caps writes, "My family and I keep busting straight through our data cap every month with Comcast. Is there anything we can do to breakdown/monitor which devices are the biggest culprits?" First up, Comcast's usually ignored how much data you consume... but that's changing. They've even offering an Unlimited Plan... we explain that in the video. 1. How do you get your windows 10 keys??? I have a laptop upgraded from 7 to 10 for "free" and a gaming desktop upgraded from 8 to 10 for free but I don't know the Windows key and I really want to do a clean install not an upgrade. PLEEEEASEEEE HELP!
  2. KIRBY!!!!!! :-)
  3. How cute. Shannon used the dreaded (S) word. lol. My youngest daughter and I both use the (S)portsball word. In her 8th grade PE class her PE teacher was trying to teach her how to use a bat to hit a ball and he cringed when she said "I'm sorry. I am just not good at sportsball." He said "What???" of which she replied "You know, sportsball. That thing you focused you life around." She says he just cringed and mumbled and walked away. lol!
  4. I love you shannnoonn!!! marry me
  5. Couldn't activate my "clean install" Windows 10, also failed the fall 2015 update that would allow using the Windows 7 key for activation.
Finally did a clean install of Windows 7 from the restore disk (thanks JOY SYSTEMS for including the restore media with my refurbished PC)
Added benefit is the NOOK for PC now functions correctly, the NOOK App for Windows 10 cuts off portions of the page area.
  6. Windows users don't pay for software though, which I think lead to the bloatware scamware BS. I can't even find a video of top 10 paid app type articles and videos for Windows because the idea of paying for software is ridiculous to Windows (and android for that matter) users.
  7. Personally, I think caps are BS. Overhead from HTTPS, VPNs and the like account for up to 5% (74?... bits for dynamic multi-point VPNs if I remember correctly) of all traffic through them for standard ethernet 2 frames. HTTPS traffic through a VPN, and a proxy on top of it... the header information adds up quickly and could affect the statistics. May as well prevent the packet/frame getting sent twice and set the MTU settings correctly. I sent an E-mail to +TekThing to share as a lot of people don't read comments, but seeing as I haven't had to deal with this problem, anyone know of any good compression proxies? This will likely be a booming industry if this capping continues. Websites may even start having parts of their pages as cookies/create an app so you don't have to load from the web every time... (not sure if this is possible/anyone thought of this yet)

I wonder if Comcast is going to apply this to government connections, 'cause then the (hundreds of) thousands of internet connections that local, state and federal buildings have will have to pay this extra fee, and we all know where their budget comes from.

I was unaware of ISPs putting bandwidth caps on users, but I'm a networking engineer and know of some possible* complications of monitoring user traffic statistics. One possibility is fragmentation due to a bad MTU configuration, which could double bandwidth statistics depending on where and how the statistics are gathered (I don't work for a public ISP). I've got a starting point for a PowerShell script to fix it at a computer-level, but I've been programming for all of 4 days. I know capabilities, but don't know how to get all of my ideas down/into a program. I've never used GitHub before, but please see the start of my program below, and share as you see fit! I'm excited to start programming and would love some tips! I don't want to see people have to get bandwidth docked against them twice!

Sorry for the linux users too! I'm just getting into that as well... I'm just a plumber of the internet. Considering Fallout 4 just came out and I don't have a cap, I probably wont work on this script outside of work... Outside help would be nice!

Man... didn't even think of the impact on sever-based games! People with caps... man... that sucks!
  8. will the ethernet adapter from the first gen chromecast work with the new one?
  9. MAaaan.. I love Sharon. I think she is cool.
  10. Way too much headroom for Patrick's single shot. Who set up the cameras this week? They centred his head in the shot, but that looks strange.
  11. Great show. But I don't think you need to write anything down before doing a Windows 10 clean install. I upgraded from 7 to 10, then I wanted to switch to an SSD... and it remembered my computer and auto activated it.
  12. magnetizer on the cheap plus a free bonus: tear apart a mechanical hard drive and slap the magnet from it on the side of the screwdriver. Great place to store a few screws on that magnet along with making the tip magnetic!
  13. luv this show
  14. You forgot one HUGE reason to upgrade to the newer model Chromecast: The new model can connect to 5gHz band Wi-Fi (which the old one cannot)! This was a major improvement for me, now I can stream high-bitrate 1080p MKV's to it via Plex with absolutely 0% loss in quality with no stuttering/buffering.
  15. There is a board available for the Raspberry Pi to give you Z-Wave support use this link http://razberry.z-wave.me/
  16. "I think I pulled it out in time" jeez, Pat, PHRASING!

  17. Is this the Halloween show and Patrick going as a trucker? Seriously.
  18. Love my Chromecast! I would prefer to use my Xbox One, but the video quality just isn't as good, and it's wired... 0.o
