This is a video on how to recover or restore your administrator password on your Mac running on OSX. I use Tiger 10.4.3 in this video but will work on Snowlepord and Lion as well. Recovering the password is a hassle so i just prefer to wipe it. Step 1: Boot up your Mac and wait for everything to load, then press the power button and select Restart and when the screen either goes blue or when you hear the boot sound, hold down the Command + S keys and wait for Terminal to start on boot. Step 2: Once terminal boots, type the following command with no quotes "fsck -fy" and hit the Return or Enter key. This checks your file system allow this to run until it prompts you for the next command. Step 3: When its time for the next command type the following "mount -uw /" again no quotes. It should finish and prompt you for the next command right away. Step 4: The next command is this "rm /var/db/.applesetupdone" again NO QUOTES and then hit Enter or Return and that as well should finish in about a second. Step 5: Type "reboot" no quotes into the terminal and hit Enter or Return and allow your system to reboot. once it does go through the setup and make a new user account and select "use files from other Partition on this drive" to recover your files. and then just do the rest and your set to go with a new Administrative password. NOTE: BACK UP YOUR FILES FIRST BEFORE YOU DO THIS JUST TO BE SAFE!!!!!!!!!
