In this tutorial, we are going to give you an overview of volumes and snapshots. We'll be setting up a ZFS volume and dataset, and teaching you about the different possible volume layouts - such as stripes, mirrors, RAIDZ, RAIDZ2, etc. In addition, we'll be creating ZFS snapshots. Bookmarks: 1. Creating a storage volume in ZFS (0:37) 2. Creating a ZFS dataset (3:39) 3. Setting permissions (4:18) 4. Creating a ZFS snapshot (5:09) 5. Cloning a ZFS snapshot (5:59) 6. Creating a periodic snapshot (6:34) To learn more about FreeNAS, visit our website at http://www.freenas.org For information on TrueNAS & FreeNAS storage solutions, visit http://www.ixsystems.com/storage/ Purchase the FreeNAS Mini here: http://amzn.to/2dXw43X Music credits: Christian Bjoerklund - Hallon Obsibilo - Soixante-8 Kevin MacLeod - Hustle

  1. Plural for disk is 'disks'.....not 'disk-uzz' :)
  2. how to make full volume dataset?
  3. This is totally annoying!! Installed 2 SSD drives (450 GB ea) and a USB flash (64 GB) where I installed the operating system...boots up but does not see ANY drives so I have nothing!!!!. WTF?!
  4. hi i have a nas with 2tb.. i want to map that nas from my network with my freenas how i can do that?
  5. For those who want to dive further into Permissions, check out FreeNAS 9.3 Permissions Overview https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBszScnsRgY
  6. Where are snapshots stored?
  7. How can I have the previous versions show in Windows Explorer? If this isn't possible, how can I restore a specific file or folder rather than the entire dataset?
  8. hi. I need help. I created two directories in FreeNas for all users. no one can write the files there . You do not have permission necessary to perform this operation. how to fix it ?
  9. The permission setting was a bit sketchy.  What group do the users need to be in, and can the apps/plugins write to?  Is it 'nobody'?
  10. Anything better than FreeNas. This is my third time making an attempt at this worthless piece of shit file system...same problem as always...3.0 WD HDD's always receive an error at getting the disc size and therefore the drive won't mount! Fuck FreNas 9.2.1.8
  11. Thanks
  12. Thanks for the video it seems freenas has come a very long way.
