  11. PLEASE HELP! I AM AN ADMITTED PC IDIOT!
------ I purchased a 2gb hdd to backup my Sony Vaio laptop before it crashes because it has starting to go downhill fast as it approaches 7-8 yrs old!
Anyway, I do not need to know how to do the backup itself, as I have already done it a few times.
Like the first time i done it, it did not take that long and i used the WD software that came with the hdd. So I was figuring it did not back-up everything, just my pics, music, ect...files. But not the os.
Then like the 3rd time I used windows backup and it took all day and all night! So i figured of course it must have backed up everything that was on the pc, and that is what i wanted. Plus now I only have 1gb left of the 2gb's.

    1st question:
Does the backup include the bookmarks/favorites i have on google chrome?
(so that i can transfer them to a new pc when i get one. I do a lot of research and have a lot of folders of links-- it would make me sick if i had to start all over! )

    Next:
If I have hidden files that I do not want backed up, will they still be backed up or will the hdd not see them either?

    Question:
I want to continue to back it up at least monthly, but i only have like 1gb left on the hard drive, so how do i make sure it does not backup the OS again? (only my files pics, ect....)

    Next question:
Do you recommend using Windows Backup or the WD backup software

    Next question:
Will the hdd backup just replace the old files with new ones and delete the old ones in order to keep from filling up the hdd and to keep from having multiple copies of every picture, song, video ect i have ever took?

    Next:
How do i see exactly what's on the bu hdd? I just manged to see a list of the bu's and the their dates and something called GlobalCatalog.

    Next:
If I ever wanted to transfer a certain file or program back to the pc w/o transferring everything, how in the world do i find what i want to transfer on the bu hdd?

Next question: It keeps asking about scheduling a backup. How can I schedule backup days/times when this is a laptop so of course the hdd does not stay connected to it?

Next: How often should i back up?

If you don't have time to answer all of these dumb questions, could you please tell me where i could find the answers?

    Thanks for reading!
