Given nowadays many pcs doesn't come with OS DVDs, it's always best to make a backup of the OS just in case the physical hard drive fails or get infected with a virus or malware and re-install is the best solution. Here's a How To Video on using and making Windows 7 file recovery image backup for Windows 8 or Windows 7. I will show you how easy it is to backup to another drive and also show you to backup your image on to DVD if you prefer that alternative route. Basically, you will need many DVD+R DL dvds if you use the DVD method. Either way, at the end you will still need a boot DVD/CD for restoration so you computer has to be setup to boot to DVD drive to do the restore. Note that the bigger the system image you have, the more disk space or DVDs you will need to use for the backup and the longer time it will take to backup. I'll give you an overview on the usage given I didn't find any when I was looking.
