Typically the video file is corrupt since the device failed to save the header information. You can use hex edit to copy the healthy header from another working video, or you can use Grau Video Repair Tool to automatically add the header information as well as repair the other portions of the video. Both methods have worked for me in the past. Steps: 1.) Try copying only 99.9% of the video. 2.) Process and see if it is successful in repairing. Hope that helps! Download Grau Video Repair Tool: http://grauonline.de/cms2/?page_id=5 Download HxD Hex Editor: http://mh-nexus.de/en/hxd/ If you want to double the size of your video, make a copy of the video(so you have 2 of the same file), and bind them using command prompt(therefore doubling the size of the video), i.e.: copy/b movie1.mov+movie1-copy.mov This will modify movie1.mov by binding movie1-copy.mov to it. 1. the video was 10 minutes long, it is now only some seconds long and is so fast that not even slowing it down in vegas can make it right :( Any ideas?
  2. hey do you think i can email you my file and you can try to fix it for me? It is an MOV file and the size is 2.78GB. I tried doing the steps and couldnt do it, and then step 5 REALLY confused me. If this isnt possible, then dont worry about it, but any help is great
  3. Does NOT Work on Mac. Every time you open the GS File it gives you a script error.
  4. Need more details on step 5. How do I know what, where to copy from the healthy video? What part is the header info?
  5. But the repaired video's audio was not synced properly....can you help?
  6. The software doesn't do anything when I try to repair a file
  7. You're a genius David :D
Thanks for making this tutorial bro!

Spent half a day searching software online to repair my 3GP video file from an Android phone that got corrupted after the phone switched off during the recording due to low battery.

Grau was the only software I did not use even after downloading it because it really looked suspicious and even though I have sandboxie I did not want to take the risk.

After your video I saw that it was trustworthy after all and the way I recovered the entire video perfectly with the free version was by combining your 2 methods :)

I used the Hex editor and duplicated the contents of the corrupted video before inserting it to Grau and after that it recovered the full video instead of just half.

Thanks a million, another one will not bite the dust ;)
  8. So if this shit doesn't work I'm fucked? I hate my computer for restarting... An hours worth of good footage down the drain. I'm considering suicide.
  9. wow it actually worked... wtf, my GoPro got wet as soon as i went underwater as it was in its case (yes, it was sealed and everything) ... the gopro broke but this helped save the file i really needed! i'm super hyped this worked
  10. wow it actually worked... wtf
  11. I have a 5gb video file that is slightly corrupt. I'm assuming the header is intact, it plays in VLC, but not in MPC. I know there might be slight corruption toward the end of the file. Does a player automatically recognize the new lenght of the video if I chop something off in HEX, or do I need to rewrite the header?
  12. i didn't understand your copy and paste header information? you said to copy header info from healthy video to corrupt video but you copied from currupt video and saving in the pc? please explain the process again. please
  13. i went to a 2 day airsoft event and my gopro wire (hooked up to external battery) gets snagged and ruins footage.
  14. I love the miniature XD
  15. everything worked up to where my repaired video is suppose to be located in the repair folder. Inside that folder i have just the 2 chrome html files. does anyone know why i dont have a finished video in that folder?
  16. My camera isn't supported by the stupid program thing, and whenever I try to copy the letters in hex editor, it just says out of memory. I have 20GB of RAM....And when i actually copy a super tiny portion of the text, it says out of memory when I try to paste it. Is there seriously not another fucking way so i can get my video back???
  17. I can't seem to get my 4 corrupted videos to work, it says they are 0 seconds long but around 2GB in size. Could you help me? They got corrupted when I used my phone's memory card in my action camera and put the memory card back in the phone because I had forgotten my camera's memory card. Is it still possible to fix?
  18. I'm having issues playing the video it "repaired", can I send this to you?
  19. And when I hit Scan, it shows an Error message: Cannot write to output folder... I wonder why
  20. if i had the healthy video, why would I want to fix a corrupted video... i know im missing something here, gotta find away to repaired my recovered MP4's =/
