  8. No device detected You probably misunderstood the instructions. Please consult Google or youtube for instructions on how to enter DFU mode. = it's not going to work

  19. Old Mac? Forget it. iTunes up-to-date? Better be on a newer machine. Firewalls off? Security off?
    DO NOT attempt to do ANYTHING on an out-of-date system like Snow Leopard as I fear this is where my initial problem started. (Prompted to update to 9.x.x. Error said iTunes 11.4 was current for this machine and ended task then Restore froze iPad in recovery mode...)
    Unfortunately, if your iPad is stuck "in recovery mode" with the cable-to-iTunes icon showing, even after a forced reset with the sleep and home buttons pressed, this won't work unless some actions are taken first.
    Checking the "hosts" files, the apple entry was not there so it's safe, I guess, to assume that the server wasn't being connected to despite being able to go to apple.com... courtesy of Dr. Google!
    Disable the FIREWALL in your MODEM and your computer AND your AV, etc. leaving yourself completely unprotected.
    Then run the prompts. Twice, if needed. Until my system was totally vulnerable each attempt failed.
