How To - Fix - The Recycle Bin on D:\ is Corrupted Recycle bin is used to throw the system trash. What if one day recycle bin throws an error saying its corrupted. This error message is like this "The Recycle Bin on D:\ is corrupted. Do you want to empty the recycle bin for this drive?" Each drive on windows has a hidden and protected system folder called $Recycle.Bin. If you use the unhide option from the folder options, you will be able to see this folder. In windows 8 so, go to “View” on the top left corner and then click on “Options”. A new folder options window will appear. From the View tab first uncheck this option “Hide protected operating system files (recommended)”. Click on yes and also check “Show hidden files, folders and drives”. Go to each drives now and you will be able to see the folder named $Recycle.Bin. In this tutorial we are going to reset\repair the recycle bin and by reset\repairing means, the Recycle Bin folder gets deleted and windows will automatically create a new $Recycle.Bin folder. So to reset the folder, follow the process shown here. Open the elevated command prompt. You can do that by typing CMD after pressing the windows button and then right click on it, click on “Run as Administrator”. Type the following command “rd /s /q D:\$Recycle.Bin” and hit enter. Here parameter S removes all directories and files in the specified directory in this case D:\$Recycle.Bin in addition to the directory itself and other parameter Q is used for Quiet mode. Do not ask if ok to remove a directory tree with. This command will reset the Recycle Bin folder on D Drive. You may have to do it according to your situation by just replacing drive letter D:\. If you are getting error for C Drive, use C:\ or as per your issue. Be careful in using the correct command, lest you end up deleting the wrong files or directory! Once you do this, the Recycle Bin folder and all the files and folders in it will be deleted. On computer restart, Windows will recreate a new Recycle Bin for you. I hope you liked the video.
