check out my website for all my tutorials: http://carlsapty.com/ to see all my tutorials, check out my tutorials at http://carlsapty.com/tutorials-2/ this video is to show you how you can format your MacBook Air/ MacBook pro by using an online recovery as well as by erasing and formatting the pc. it goes through all the steps especially when the error message "can't install additional components for MacBook" and wont let you download it. sorry about the images, i literally just took them from Google Images to have a proper explanation of what to do when formatting the mac a lot of people have been asking me what happens if you you get to the bootloader and all that comes up is "Macintosh HD" , then this is what you have to do: go to your terminal on your desktop by pressing the command button and space bar and typing in 'terminal' in the spotlight search, or you can do it from the launchpad. once in the terminal, type: diskutil list then exit the terminal. then turn of the Mac, turn it back on using cmd+ R and then see if "Recovery HD" is listed. If not, your recovery partition does not exist, you must have formatted the hard disk or may have deleted it. this problem seems to be occurring with people who mainly have a older mac, ive noticed. if you would like me to make a video about something specific, drop me an email, or if you have only a small question then i should be able to help as soon as possible! if you have any questions, email me on my website or leave a comment!

  3. what if none of them options is available other than u need to restart in a greyed out screen with black power button and some type saying unable to find driver for this platform
  4. If you have disc errors you will NOT be able to re install the OS period. I went from a working OS to nothing, and needing a new hard drive GREAT JOB!
  5. What do I do if command + option + R does nothing I still get the error but nothing comes up
  6. I just found this solution online but it came with a caution...have NO clue why. This is the solution, i haven't tried it yet....
    sudo -s (BE CAREFUL!)

    df -h (to see where the primary disk mounts - look for /)

    then: mkdir /Volumes/EFI

    then: mount_hfs /dev/disk2s1 /Volumes/EFI
  7. when I attempted to enter the command /sbin/mount -uw /, the response was mount-hfs: Permission denied

  9. i recently wiped my macbook and wanted to install operating system from factory disk. My operating system is not installing. I get a black screen that says "efiboot loaded from device: acpi". a bunch of stuff shows up on the screen. The last thing that shows up is "if you want to make modifications to files /sbin/fsck -fy /sbin/mount -uw / if you wish to boot system: exit -sh-3.2#". I haven't the slightest clue as to how install my operating system, normally.

  12. hi, i hope you notice my comment... i've undergone all the steps.. the only remaining one is the one when you reinstall the OS.. mine says the os is currently unavailable... what do i do?

  14. What do I do if I cannot Reinstall Mac OS X? My computer says "This disk has SMART errors" and that I have to "replace the disk." Do I really have to replace the disk or are there other alternatives?
  15. I tried to do as your video, my computer had OS X 10.7.5 so to go to Mac OS X Utility I had to press only option button, I erase everything as your video, but I had to restart the computer, then I was unable to enter again to Mac OS X Utility, any help???

Hey Carl I know this video is been so long but I am currently having this problem right now and I got stuck by the Apple ID and I wrote everything right and I even chance my password to just in case I'll work but it's not happening it's giving me a note that says " This item is Temporarily Unavailable try again later " PLEASE HELP

  18. So I'm on the final step of the yosemite installation and about 6 minutes before conpletion I get this message:
    "An error occured while extracting files from the package "BSD.pkg".
    My only option is to restart and try again.. Any help pls?
