  1. Dell want £48 for a recovery disc in the UK (Windows 7 Home Premium). The robot on the phone just kept repeating that I'd pay more for a new OS. They must want us to use Torrent sites.

  3. recent exchange with DELL CHAT - You have to buy the disk from them -- I WILL NEVER BUY A DELL COMPUTER AGAIN - I AM A 30 year customer and I will never buy one or recommend that anyone purchase one again - this has been a very disappointing process and I know that this is not the way a MULTI BILLION DOLLAR COMPANY SHOULD TREAT CLIENTS WHO HAVE BEEN VICTIMIZED BY MALICIOUS APPLICATIONS - it is disturbing and makes one ponder if in fact DELL DOES NOT HIRE PEOPLE TO DESTROY COMPUTERS SO YOU HAVE TO PURCHASE NEW ONES OR BUY NEW OPERATING SYSTEMS -

  5. thank you for the heads up on obtaining the factory restore disc. Merry Christmas. "god bless" everyone...
  6. This little trick no longer works. They will route you to sales and make you buy it for 20 bucks.
  7. Thanks so much for sharing this! Very helpful! My girlfriend is happy now!
  8. hi, which of the sites are you using? I didn't find the the customer support chat....
  9. Thanks. This was very helpful.
  10. 2/19/16 Thank you again for the steps to obtain a restore media. I followed the steps you outlined and I was disconnected twice while being transferred from customer support chat to technical support chat. Fortunately for me the 2nd chat person gave me the following technical chat link before I was disconnected.

    http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/chat/hardware_chat?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

Once at this tech support chat link I was able to obtain the restore media for my 4 year old, out of warranty Dell 8500, for $19.99. I guess that nothing is free anymore.
In the process of giving my information and waiting for a response, I was asked several times to purchase a service contract. I declined several times.
The whole process is needlessly long and tedious but after 90 minutes on the computer and phone I should be receiving my media soon.
Word to the wise - as soon as you get your new Dell computer, call customer support, tell them you need the restore media, and they should send you out one immediately for free. I did this recently for a new Dell 8900 and the process worked perfectly.
  11. Thank you for this info.
  12. THANKS WHAT ABOUT ERROR MESSAGE LOCKED SETUP WHO DO YOU CHANGE THE PASSWORD TO UNLOCK AND CHNGE
  13. would they do this for a 2007 inspiron laptop? I think it may be too old.
