So you've got your Baofeng UV-5R and you want to program it. Look no further. Learn here how to program it using the front panel or using Chirp Software. Don't have one? There are a couple of different flavors of basically the same radio ranging from $29 to $45: Baofeng UV-5RA: http://goo.gl/gSL1sr Baofeng UV-5R: http://goo.gl/lFvX2N Baofeng UV-5R+: http://goo.gl/yl5nTG The Newest Baofeng BF-F8: http://goo.gl/MeLXuX To program the radio with a PC you will need the USB to Serial Adapter: http://goo.gl/C7k5KK Chirp Software: http://goo.gl/bmCiTl One of the radios I have has this antenna to improve range/reception: http://goo.gl/yqY0wN A few more programming tips that are not in the video; If you mess up you can always restore your radio to factory default by pressing MENU-40. The radio will then begin speaking in Chinese. To change back to English use MENU-14. Be sure to save your work in the Chirp software when you are finished. If you goof up your radio you can always restore the cloned image. The same with programming multiple radios, you should be able to clone one to the other. Interested in becoming a HAM? 1. thank you sir
  2. Very well done, thanks for putting this out!
  3. just a quick question, even with a GMRS license, are these handhelds "legal" to use on those frequencies? Thank you...
  4. turn the music off and lower the radio vol
  5. Thanks how do I scan on Two Meter?
  6. ok, I had to put the old driver in 3.2.0 and even though I have the BF-F9V2+ (8watt), the CHIRP software recognized my radio as the UV-5R and not the BF-F8
  7. could not open port com5: [Error 2] The system cannot find the file specified.
  8. So THATS why my CHIRP software didn't work... I love this channel.
  9. If I have to have a special License to use these things... Screw it. 😨
I just wanted to use these like any other 2-Way Radios with 22 Channels and multiple Sub-Channels. 🤔
I love the build quality and they seem very 'Professional', but I guess needing special FCC 'permission' to use them is the catch. ☹️
    Dammit. I just can't win. 😢
  10. helpfull, concise, and to the point. A+++
  11. What if I don't have a license? did I just burn $$
  12. More to come, something to look forward to!, I have now purchased two uv5r's after watching your video's,great radio's at an unbelievable price! I am studying for my Technician's test, what antenna do you suggest for the uv5r, the Diamond or the Nagoya? and by the way, thank's for all the awesome video's Tin Hat Ranch!!!...
  13. Is a license needed to operate this radio?
  14. Which language voice do they have for Baofeng other than English and Chinese?
  15. Do they picked up NOAA frequencies? 162.400 MHz to 162.550 MHz with 25 MHz increments.

Which frequencies do they picked up on that device.
  16. Thank you for sharing, but that music is just annoying.
  17. @ Tin Hat Ranch - Please let everyone know that these radios ARE NOT legal in FRS/GMRS/MURS. They are HAM radios only. These radios are not Part 95 compliant and is not on the FCC list of approved radios for GMRS/FRS regardless of license. They radiate an effective power of 5 watts, which is more that the 2 watt max in radios as a whole (the low power or 1 watt setting doesn't matter) for MURS. I know they have the capability, but I'm afraid its listen only unless in case of life-threatening emergency. Which is a total shame because I really like this radio.
  18. Do you need a tech licence to talk 1 on 1 in the simplex manner? I know you can broadcast without a license only if someones life/lives or property is in imminent danger (i've been slowly reading up to get my tech license someday...)
  19. so when i talk to a repeater do i talk to everybody using that repeater or just the frequency i want to talk it. i dont quite understand this
  20. Great video! Not to pick at details but.... shouldn't the step be 2.5 kHz if you wanted to program / scan through GMRS, which transmitting on would likely be illegal with that radio and its power (except in a SHTF scenario)? Example: GMRS channel 9 = 467.5875
