For this tutorial, we will be using shadow explorer. You can download the application from: Shadowexplorer.com\downloads We have already downloaded and installed shadow explorer over here for the purpose of this tutorial. Step 1 -- Deleting a file Let's open up the downloads folder, both in shadow explorer and windows explorer. In the downloads folder, let's permanently delete the zip file over here. You can do that by pressing the control shift delete key, or by simply dragging the file over to the recycling bin and emptying it. Step 2 -- Selecting the partition and recovery point Now let's start recovering the lost files. Over here, next to the partition selection menu, you will have another menu from where you can choose a recovery point before the event happened, in this case, before I deleted the zip file. Since I deleted the file just now, any of the two restore points would do. But make sure you select the right partition and the right date. Step 3 -- Exporting the deleted file Over here you can see the zip file. Simply right click on it and choose the export option. With his utility, you will be recovering the lost files with just the click of a button. Step 4 -- Choosing a location for the recovered file With that done, a new window will open up where you will be required to choose where to save the file being exported. Let's select the desktop for the location and click on Ok. Step 5 -- File recovered And over here you can see that the file has been recovered. It is exactly the same size as it was previously and if I unzip the file, the contents are easily extracted, which means that the file wasn't damaged or didn't get corrupt in the process and has been recovered successfully. And that's pretty much it for how to recover lost files in windows 7.
