How to recover your sony vaio windows 8 laptop back to factory default settings, please remember under all circumstances to backup your data before starting this procedure. Handy tip if your laptop has been attacked with a virus for example. This will restore your laptop to how it was when you first purchased it. If you dont have any joy you will need a new copy of windows 8.1 http://amzn.to/1BhRoVL (Amazon Link) UK ONLY

Hi, I installed a new hard drive on my sony vaio that has come equipped with Windows 8. Will this process help restore the windows 8 or do I have to purchase a new windows 8 cd to reinstall?

Hii :)!
I pressed Alt+F10 nothing happened :(.. after many times. I also tried assist+F10.. again nothing. Then i went on Vaio Care and clicked Advanced Tools. I see a tab that says Restore: 1) System Restore, 2) Reinstall applocations and drivers 3) Vaio Data Restore Tool. I would like to know which of these is the Factory Restore? :/.. i am sorry if my qsn is too dumb. But im so desperate! :( -

Hey mates! My VGNFS742 doesn't have the assist button, so using the F10 Recovery method, the process starts (black screen white lettering at bottom of screen); the next screen (the process goes directly to this screen) displays (blue screen with white cursor) and flickers once; then displays a white screen with black lettering showing "Restore C: Drive (Step 1 of 4) Use to restore the C: drive to it's original factory condition..... I checkmark "yes" to understand the warning of everything being deleted and hit next (only options at bottom of the screen that aren't grayed out are CANCEL and NEXT); a boxed error screen pops up displaying "ERROR 400 occurred when restoring the system.Cannot continue. Click OK to restart from Recovery Disc 1 and select "Restore Complete System". I don't have any kind of recovery discs. Originally this laptop's OS was Win XP; I clean installed to Win 8.1 Pro but made sure I left the OEM partition on the hard drive as the install gave the option to do so. Can anyone shed some light on what's going on here!!? I will gladly answer questions if asked. Thanks, LouieVaio

Do you need any original Sony recovery DVD to be able to do this on a Sony laptops with Windows 8? Or it uses the recorded files on the laptop hard Recovery Partition?
