How-To: Root AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 [SGH-i777] Android 2.3.6

***Any damage done to your device is your own responsibility. Rooting voids your warranty. Follow at your own risk*** ***Only works with AT&T Galaxy S2 SGH-i777. No other devices period*** ***Some people have suggested that using the kernel in this video is no longer safe and can cause your phone to be bricked. Search for another kernel such as cm7 source or others made for gingerbread. I have also changed the kernel used in this video. Check the link below.*** 1. Go to http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-root-att-galaxy-s2-sgh-i777/ and follow instructions. 2. Install Kies from http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/at-t/SGH-I777ZKAATT by clicking software tab and running download. 3. Go to the Play Store on phone and download rom manager (This will be used in a later step. We're just downloading it while wifi is still working to save data). 4. Plug into usb and put your phone in download mode by pushing vol up vol down and power. 5. Download GalaxyS2ATTRootZedomax.zip and run odin3v1.85.exe 6. Click PDA and choose "SGH-I777-ATTGalaxyS2RootStockZedomaxKernel.tar" and hit start. Wait for phone to restart. 7. You are now rooted but wifi will not work because of zedomax kernel. 8. Now we will flash a new kernel with working wifi. 9. Go to rom manager on phone and flash cwm recovery. Select att galaxy s2 (Unfortunately this must be done over at&t's network because you can't connect to wifi and we couldn't do it while you did have wifi because you weren't rooted yet). 10. Go to http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/GalaxyS2ATT/kernels/Entropy/DD_03072012.tar (This is the kernel with working wifi). 11. Flash the kernel file in ODIN 12. Reboot device. You're now rooted with working wifi!

  2. So I followed everything. Got it rooted, but I am running into issues with the working kernel. I booted into CWR, but it does not see the .tar file.

  11. @Gino M update to shostock3 jelly bean ROM. Check out my video on it. it's a far better experience than gingerbread anyways

  20. help me out. i installed the zedomax kernel, then my wifi kept turning off. this is my only means of internet as my phone is off. so i read down the description and it says install another kernel, so i did. but my wifi is still not working. i couldnt find the one you said download. please help. thanks
