QUESTION: I already have some files saved from a backup of a windows computer on my 2T Ex HD. If i want to back up my macbook air (128 gb), and I partition the drive, will it erase my existing files? If not, how will I move my files to the other partition?

for el capitan users just format your external hard drive to OS X extended then you will see the partition icon then just select the partition size for backup then use the OS X extended format the enter after that you will see the 2nd partition format that exfat then you are good to go thanks ;) i did the same and it works for me ;)
