This is how you tell if your harddrive is dead or on it's deathbed. Also Linus walks through what to avoid in order to prolong the life of your hard drive. Finally, we suggest that users use SMART in order to test and keep up to date on the status of their drives. HD Sentinel is a great way to keep track of this automatically and it can warn you when something is wrong, or about to go wrong. It can even give you an estimated lifespan remaining on your drive, listed in number of days. 2. im using a hard drive, but when my hard drive starts to fail, should i buy new windows or move it, if the answear is move it how.
  3. my dad had a custom gaming PC built in 2005 made to run The Sims 2 at max settings (lol). The HDD had 250gb, which was pretty good for a HDD back then. I have it in my PC right now (Mostly used for movies, tv shows, general media) and it clicks, but quietly. I'm not sure what to make of it. It has had a memory leak before, but it seemed to fix itself, and other than that it has never misbehaved. Also, WD FTW. 11 Year old hard drive has outlived two of my Seagates.
  4. my pc goes crazy when i play Cs go for some weird reason it get Hot But when i play attila or rome 2 on high texture it dosent even come close to the heat is it the grapich card or Hard drive or Prossercors ?
  5. "This has been hotly debated" I groaned and said "oh, shut up" to my screen.
  6. I know this Is a old video but great info! specially for a newbie like me, thanks!
  7. Does one really need to specify that the damaging kind of trauma is physical.... opposed to what? psychotic trauma... "like oh my HDD just died of psychotic trauma"
  8. I'm using a Toshiba P300 7200rmp 3TB hard drive and it isnt even a year old yet I've always thought its quite noisy sometimes... Its increasingly started to worry/annoy me and I'm wondering if I should get it replaced while its still hopefully under warranty. SMART says its ok but sometimes I'm not even doing anything and it starts scratching/grinding quite loudly or even beeping/clicking and when I look at my Advanced SystemCare monitor, under processes with high disk I/O it sometimes say its at 100% for a few seconds when I'm not even doing anything in particular... I use an SSD too and I don't heavily use my HDD, its about 1/3 full and I don't use it excessively either. I didn't notice any of the other symptoms mentioned in the video and its also not suffered any of the main causes of failure mentioned so I dont know whether I should be worried. Advice?
  9. my ssd wear level is 97% is that bad or good i have no idea????
  10. My external drive suddenly became RAW and I cannot recover it via cmd command chkdsk /f.

It gives me this message "windows cannot recover master file table chkdsk aborted".

    Any solution to this problem?
  11. my 10 year old hard drive still works.
  12. I dropped 2 hdd's, they didn't die right away. It took about a month.
  13. In 544 bad sectors dead ( it wont load windows i need to use tails os to check)
  14. physical drive diagnosis for badasses.....MHDD..... erase wait.... scan..... it's sorta like oldschool scandisk but more detailed, if there's sudden a group of bad clusters (delays/warnings/other) will give you a really really good idea what is up..... far more accurate than SMART data which can be outright inaccurate(often corrupted by a bad psu).... for SSD I haven't had to deal with it yet;P
  15. I have several programs to backup my data. I use Norton to back up my files, I also use Nova Backup the same thing. (when I do a property check Nova is always larger. I also manually copy my librairies and finally I use Acronis to clone my disk. All of these jobs are on separate drives. Talk about CYA.
My question is if I have an HD fail will my Acronis be able to put all my sofware back on my computer. Every tech guy I talk to says no.
    Appreciate NCIX opinion
  16. is it normal when i hear a click whe i turn off the pc?from a new hdd?
  17. The WD blue EIDE 80gb drive from my inspiron 1300 lasted for about 10 years before something want wrong with the read head. Thankfully I was able to get it to boot one last time to copy my data off of it.
  18. I use diskeeper from conducive technologies. Man, it made my harddrive disciplined !! My laptop is almost a decade old; and I still run 32-bit windows vista in it (ahem😆😆😆 ). But after I started using diskeeper, its speed noticeably improved. It still gets very hot if I use it continuously for 6 to 8 hours, but not as before (earlier, it used to get hot just after one and a half hours !!!). I thought I should share it in this forum because I know a lot of people do not fall for "designed obsolescence" of computer/laptop/cellphone companies and change their machines every six months. ( Heck, nowadays, even the shopowners of laptops and computers give the ill-advice of throwing your old one after every two year and buy a new one. What a hideous world this is ..... )
  19. can i put as another kind of hard drive on sony vsio loptop
