http://www.accularian.com/lps/YouTube/ - This short video covers the basics of using Apple's Disk Utility application to erase and partition a hard drive. This is an important lesson to have in your tool box because you will use it every time you buy a new hard drive. Hard Drives are typically formatted with the Windows FAT32 format. A Mac can read that just fine and you can use that if you want to use the disk on both computer operating systems but my preferred method for Mac only use is to format a drive using the information is this tutorial. Here are some keywords that will help people find this lesson more easily... 6. Hi, Dana,
I am having trouble with Disk Utility. When I select the disk to erase, it comes up on the format item, but it dimmed. I cannot alter anything. (format, name, or erase) I am not sure what I doing wrong. I am using Mac OS X ver. 10.6.8 -- I am attempting to wipe the hard drive to give it away.
  7. Just what I was looking for! Thx
  8. There are a few components to Mac speed ups. One plan I found which successfully combines these is the Mels Speed Method (check it out on google) without a doubt the most incredible treatment i've heard of.Check out all the amazing information .

  16. Hi, I have a question for you. What is the difference between 251 GB APPLE SSD... and Macintosh HD? are they the same thing?
  17. very good
  18. I have a question. I took my iMac too the Apple store for service and they inadvertently partition my hard drive. When my desktop startup now, I have to logout with one name and sign in with another in order to access what was already on my hard drive prior to the hard drive/DVD repair. I am working on project and need to get some items (copy or moved) from one part of the hard drive to other. i.e a images to create slideshow to add to an iMovie on the other partitioned side. I would prefer to have it unpartitioned but I was told that cannot be done. Worse still is that did not resolve all the original problems I took it in for either. Part of the original problem (among many) was a defect with the hard drive and also Time Machine which corrupted my external hard drive that is now a read only file device and iPhoto along with some iMovie files were affected by it. In the middle of a job I was doing for a client. So now I am trying to create a new project and need what is on the other side of the wall, as it where.
  19. What's the pros and cons for using MS-DOS (FAT) format over Mac OS Extended (journaled)? For instance, If I only use an external hard drive on my mac but decided to format it as MS-DOS (FAT) would I be at any disadvantage?
