http://www.izzyvideo.com/ - AVCHD video can be confusing. When you're shooting video, you see on your camera that you have several different clips. But when you plug the card into your computer and look at the files, you can't see the individual video clips. If you dig deep, you'll find mysterious MTS files, but when you try to open them in a video player, it doesn't work. How can you copy or move a single video clip? How can you open them in a video player without bringing them into your video editing software? This video shows a tool called "ClipWrap" that I find useful for working with AVCHD video clips. I hope you find this brief tour helpful. http://www.izzyvideo.com/

  1. This is excellent! I've been having some problems lately with the MTS video files from my camera. What I've been doing is copying just the MTS files from my camera directly to my computer and importing them into the video editing software. And yeah, video scrubbing gets stuck often, the software stops responding, etc. I've tried it on a Windows PC (Windows Movie Maker and Hit Film 4 Express) and on a mac (imovie). I think moving forward I prefer to work on Hit Film 4 Express on my Windows PC. I wonder how the process you described translates to Windows - I'll figure it out! Thanks for this clear explanation.
  2. Why are my avchd files broken into segments and why does the audio skip as it passes by the file break.
  3. Hey dude, thx for the video
I am new with Sony and my question is
I did all these but I don't find the MTS files in the STREAM file, is that a kind of hidden files? How can I solve this problem
    Thank you very much again
  4. Thanks for the great vid, Izzy.

After watching the video and reading all the comments, I'm still left wondering if ClipWrap's "Rewrap (Source Format)" (or EditReady's or FreeAVCHDConverter's Rewraps) costs one generation of video. I hear you say that ClipWrap's Rewrap doesn't change the compression from .h264, but I don't know whether that means it does or does not decompress the original mts .h264 video and then recompress it to the Rewrapped .h264 video?

In other words, is there ANY loss in video quality to do the ClipWrap's "Rewrap (Source Format)" for any reason?
(Same question for EditReady and FreeAVCHDConverter)

Furthermore, if no loss in video quality from a Rewrap, then is there ANY reason to hang on to the camera-original AVCHD footage after the Rewrap??

     Thanks much!
  5. I edited some AVCHD files in FCPX 10.1.3 but after completing the edits I cant export them. The whole command window that opens up when you click share opens up but I cant click on any option. any idea whats happening here?
  6. I have been working for 2 day's to find something that would work without any hassle., do wou have the same for XAVCHD?
  7. Thanks, that was a new thing to come across. By the way, I am using Canon C100 mark ii, which records in AVCHD. I have found the tutorial very applying to me... I cannot find the app to download, I searched app store, but nothing comes up, and I am not sure on other sources to trust. Do you by any chance have the link for the app please? Thanks a lot.
  8. Thank you for your superb tutorial! It is perhaps the best I've seen on the topic. Since 2013, the developer (Divergent Media) has replaced ClipWrap with a newer product (at the same price): EditReady. I found it works as intended (e.g., high resolution H264) simply by opening the giant "AVCHD" file.
  9. IM THE ONLY IZZY THAT CAN QUICKSCOPE
  10. Thank your for the tutorial, but it blows my mind how complicated this whole process with AVCHD has become. I thought the transition from analog to digital would make editing much easier - and it has in many ways - but working with such files as AVCHD, BDMV, and MTS, where no one knows what they really stand for, or cares, just adds more confusion to the editing process instead of making it easier, especially for beginners. Whether intentional or not, the trend with technology has always been to find new ways to create proprietary systems and pair it with confusing jargon that trips up new users and leads them down the proverbial rabbit hole.
  11. I though FCPX will auto transcode to prores ?
  12. hi my english its not so technily but if i am understand right you dont need to go to first program for convert right? you can go direct from the direcoty map and copy file to clickwrap?
  13. Izzy, this is the first time I've watched one of your videos. Clear instructions and effective demonstration. My questions, however, are different yet related to the manipulation of AVCHD files on an SSD card. Perhaps you have another video on my questions but I couldn't find it. If not, please consider making one. Here are my questions. I'm using Canon camcorders with SSD cards. FCPx does fine with importing. However, I want to delete selected video files on the SSD card to clear up space without using the camcorder. (I don't want to erase the entire card.) The Mac desktop only shows the single AVCHD file. (1) How can I select specific files on the SSD card to delete from the Mac desktop? (2) Even within FCPx, how can I delete specific files on the card itself? Thanks for any help.
  14. Do you have the equivalent of ClipWrap for Windows users?
  15. Adobe Premiere Pro can work just fine with AVCHD, when you transcode video material you always lose quality.
  16. Thanks for taking the time to explain all the little details! Great video!
  17. Izzy, what if you don't transcode the AVCHD files for FCPX and you just go ahead and edit the AVCHD files. Does it affect the quality of the edited video output in the end?
  18. Hello!..I have a problem and you might be the one to help me...When I insert my sd card on my mac those folders don't show up. They used to but not anymore. Now I only get DCMI folder and the PRIVATE file. I can't acces my mts files anymore. Don't know what happened. I formated my card in many diferent ways and nothing. (i can import my PRIVATE file in clipconverter, but I want to acces my mts files straight from the folder you are refering on your video) PLEASE PLEASE give me a hint on how to fix this issue, thank you for reading this! :)
  19. Is there any advantage to Transcoding them outside of Final Cut instead of importing them through Final Cut X and having it do the encoding?
  20. Dude This was a life Saver!! Im Editing a wedding video for one of my clients, But I didn't shoot any of the Footage, and My Friend gave me the Hard Drive of footage to Edit. And all the Footage is AVCHD, and in my workflow Im not used the that, but this ClipWrap Thing really Worked! Thanks alot for sharing!
