My laptop stops at the black screen after the windows 10 logo comes up and when I do the start up test the memory is ok and the hard disk SMART was passed but the primary hard drive self test failed and said "Hard disk 1 fault" I have had this hp notebook 2000 since 2011 and my hard drive is 320 gb western digital Scorpio blue.   10. dude I went in legacy mode and it showed up and when I click enter, it just says No bootable device-- insert boot disk and press any key

  13. Or: you just Enter through twice and get into your comp to save what you can. So Enter through the initial notification, onto the Windows alert that it was aborted abruptly. But: my experience is that you will only be able to make a backup up to 80-85%. So my advice is to manually get what you can.

  18. If you guys dont want to buy a new hard drive you can just make a bootable ubuntu usb and run a windows-like OS on your laptop or pc, you will still get the smart error message but it wont affect your pc.

I have this problem and you can just press enter and Windows will boot but very slow, l found a program called hdd regenerator and made a bootable disk where l was able to remove the bad sectors from my hard drive and now Windows is working fine but l still get this error message at boot up l ran chkdsk and it says my hard drive is fine lm just trying to figure out how to remove this error from smart start
