This only wipes out the password, no other files are effected.

Is your keyboard wireless? If so then you might need to grab a wired keyboard

It is an iMac, it's just very old. I have used these same commands on my 2010 27" iMac and a 2008 MacBook Pro. Works the same regardless of age of the machine

This should work for os9 also, the commands might be a little different. Also some older iMacs have a button on the right side that you can hold down when powering on to get to the screen where you can enter commands
