PowerMac G5 Setup/First Run + RAM, Hard Drive, and OSX Installation

Came across a couple PowerMac G5s at a local thrift shop with no hard drives and no ram for cheap. I'd never owned an Apple product before, so I thought I'd start with something more inexpensive. I'll probably hang on to one of them for a while and maybe try and sell the other. In the video, I start with a hardware tour and then go through (in guide format) how to install/upgrade the memory and hard drive in these computers (it's a lot easier than some of their other products) and also show what's involved in doing a clean install of the latest version of OSX for this computer.   6. Its the weirdest thing , but I can't seem to be able to copy of the .dmg file over to a memory card. First i formatted the memory card in HSF+ on the mac and then used a program called mac drive 10 to open and see the drive , cut and paste the dmg file. But when it starts to copy it stops at 99%.

    I have tried your image. I even found a torrent with the same file and i keep having the same problem. It has happened with two different memory drives. I am using windows 8.1.
    Plz halp.

  11. I'm still running a G5, dual 2.0Ghz powermac G5 in 2016. Yes, it is slow for internet related browsing- especially youtube. 480-resolution is really all that works anymore, but for normal day to day office-type productivity - it still does great. I enjoy using Imovie on it - but of course it struggles with high definition movie creation. But for older camcorders and such it works just fine. It's rather loud sometimes when the fans kick on, and it does put out some heat - but it is just good for a basement, especially during wintertime!

    I have a dual PowerMac G5 with GeForce 6600 256MB, 4Gb RAM and all my youtube videos run extremely laggy and slow (using TEnFour Browser)... Any thought why?
  16. Thanks for the video. I saved a late 2005 G5 from the trash and I needed to source a 10.4.6 DVD as a straight 10.4 DVD would cause the computer to panic on startup.

  19. ive got the g5 powermac and its coming up with the question mark and the face folder sort of thing i was wondering if i can do the same i have a new hardrive installed is there a way i can do a clean install?
