Thanks for the tutorial.
Question:
1.) is their a different to using e.g. Curves to lighten/darken the image and mask it as described or
2.) use a copied layer in multiply b mode with that apply image mask? (Or layer in screen for shadows)
... Was wondering this for a long time. Wether, in terms of quality, using layer blend modes vs. curves, levels or such makes a difference.

this is a great tutorial but i have a question like in this example when i restore shadows or highlights with single or multiple shots there is always loose of contrast. when i try to add contrast the image returns to starting point, like nearly restore nothing. how can i restore shadows or highlights but still keep contrast ?
