This video will help you take your HP/Compaq laptop back to factory when you do not have recovery discs, but only the hard drive recovery partition to work from! If your original drive is fine, but windows has died on you then you won't have to buy a new drive. If your original drive is dieing and you are not able to boot into windows or fix windows, but you can copy the other partitions info to a new drive, then this video should be able to help you out as well. Links to applications used: GimageX - http://www.autoitscript.com/site/autoit-tools/gimagex/ Freecommander - http://www.freecommander.com/fc_downl_en.htm Note: There may be a chance that when you do finish the recovery and attempt to make your recovery media that the application says you can only make one copy and denies you the ability to make a set, you will need to search for a particular file in two locations if you are using an older HP/Compaq laptop. That file is HPCD.SYS. If you are using a newer laptop, (mine was made in 2010) then you will need to search for hpdcru.prc Quoted from napisr on youtube..... 1. Download Free Commander 2. Open D:\ Drive in Free Commander, assuming D is the recovery partition on your hp laptop computer 3. Find and Delete a file named HPCD.SYS in D:\ drive root folder . In newer HP systems, the fine name is hpdrcu.prc and its present in three locations. Search and delete hpdrcu.prc. 4. Navigate to the windows folder at C:\Windows\SMINST and delete another file with the same name HPCD.SYS 5. Thats it done you can now create new sets of recovery CDs or DVDs If you are looking for a way to recover a Toshiba laptop, check out this video.... http://youtu.be/NYQvTN77jEg

  12. +Gaming Moderer Logan Are you trying to restore your computer? You didn't really give enough info to be helped. Describe what you are trying to do in detail and I'll see if I'm able to help!
  13. I am using a Windows 8.1 and I don't know how to access "Computer Management." I would appreciate some help on that.
  14. What do you do if you want to restore the image to drive C:. Does not sound feasible to format drive C: and copy the image to it if you do not have windows on drive C: running to use GImageX to transfer the image. I'm other words what is the process to do this on the same drive, not a new one? Ghanks
  15. i tried the unchecked the hide protected operation system file my recovery drive dose not show anything...
  16. Thank you so much for this video!!

I have struggled for over a week to get my Pavilion dv7 working again after the HDD died, and then it turns out to be this simple!
I have tried everything with Ubuntu and ddrescue, testdisk, gparted, etc., to get it boot the recovery partition.
However, it has not succeeded yet, as it now just writes "A disk read error occurred" when i press F11.
I accidentally destroyed the "SYSTEM" partition on the old HDD, while transferring the partition to the new HDD, by typing the wrong partition name.

But by doing what you say, I've finally got it booted as it used to, when using the recovery partition!

Now i just have to wait for my new 500GB HDD to arrive, so i can start over, since the 120GB i used for testing isn't enough.
  17. My CQ50 is stuck on FINALIZING FILE RESTORE (loading screen) for hours. Overnight and still on that screen. Any ideas out there?

  18. Hi Leven, as long as the recovery partition hadn't been wiped out or tampered with at all, then my method would work for you! I put it works out! Please leave a message letting me and everyone else know how it goes!
  19. Hi, my HP is working very slowly currently. I have a partition named Recovery but since I re-installed a new OS on it before so HP recovery manager no longer works. Will this method work? Will all other partitions be wiped out if I use this method? (F11 doesn't work either). Thank you very much!! :)
  20. Hi Edward (Bonczak). I don't think there is a way to repair the recovery partition itself if it has errors. My video assumes that you have a functioning recovery partition, but no recovery USB, CD's, or DVD's. I wish I could give you a better answer than that, but unfortunately I cannot.
