Recovering corrupted external hard disk

Using Ubuntu operating system to recover files and folders from corrupted external hard disk drive. Well i'm not major in I.T. technical etc. this video is just to share my experimenting on ext HDD. Good Luck!

  2. total crap! don't know who started this thing about Ubuntu as a way to recover files, but it damn sure hasn't worked for me. I just don't believe you should have to go through so much junk to get something to work. gotta download packages to get the software to even attempt something but you can't download the software because it uses up your ram in the live setting and stops once the ram is used. just too many headaches to be something worthwhile.

  4. after connecting the hard disc it doesn't show me the options .. it just opens up by itself and tells me that particular folder is corrupt . what should I do pls ???

    Worked Extremely Well!!

    One of partitions of my External HDD is corrupted.. I just this method and copy all data in the other partition of same HDD...
    It Really Works :)

  9. I had download Ubuntu, but this is not a exe file for me to install. It is a nero burning tools. It is your way just work in laptop, but not destop? Is it work in wndows XP or others windows except windows 7? Regarding external hard drive, is it also for seagate and toshiba only. How about others brand as WD element or My passpost? Hoping you can reply me as soon as possible. Thank you!

  11. Hi, just want to ask.. cant we just copy the partition in the external disc to other partition of the same external hard disc? do we really need another different external hard disc?
  12. Ubuntu didn't recognize my corrupted Ex HD. Nothing showed up on the laptop screen. Though it recognized a new EX HD. I can see all the files & folders in that new one. I'm using Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS. Does this method work with this version? 
  13. Brilliant! Thanks so much. Just saved an external USB drive full of 500GB of images and video quickly and easily. The drive was coming up as Local Disk must be formatted etc, scary. Thankyou for posting.

  15. hi...could you please help me regarding one major problem..
    Problem is : I was downloading iso file in ubuntu. Due to some space problem it was asking extra space. So i used external harddisk to download. suddenly External harddisk is converted to UDF volume. All my data erased. So i need help to recover those important files....Thanks in advance....
  16. dude .... i used to get same msg , as corrupted and not readable ,, 
    i solved this issue in 2minutes ......


    Click on Start --> Run --> Type cmd and press Enter. 

    Say you having problem with E drive, enter the below command 

    chkdsk /f E: --> Press Enter.

  18. Thank you for this Post really helpful i have the same problem and i have installed Ubuntu on a laptop but when i connected my external HDD i get this error below

    Unable to mount (Name of the External HDD)

    Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 18: Failed to
    open $MFTMirr/$DATA: No such file or directory
    Failed to load $MFTMirr: No such file or directory
    Failed to mount '/dev/sdb1': No such file or directory

  20. not working for me bro... i hav 2 partitions and only of which 1 is working alright and only that is showing up.... the corrupted one does not show up... please help, i have over 800gb data
