Recovering files from corrupt SD Card - "This card not formatted", etc

I'd just finished taking some video's, inserted the SD card in my Windows PC and got an error saying that the card needed to be formatted before use. I tried inserting it back in the Camera, but that didn't work, also tried a few different recovery programs but they did not work either. Booting into a Live CD of Ubuntu (a Linux Operating system) let me access the files without issue or having to use any other software - just came up as if there were no problem. The last file I recorded was corrupt, but out of 7GB I was able to recover all but 177MB. Update - 3/28/13 The latest version available from Ubuntu seems to be giving people problems, I used 11.10 and that is available from this link - http://releases.ubuntu.com/oneiric/

  3. My sd card was working fine in my camera, I inserted into my computer Mackbook pro and nothing is popping up. I tried my other sd cards and those are working just fine. This one sd card now doesn't work when I place back in to card it just shows that E and no memory card inside. Am I able to retrieve images

  6. I would like to really thank you for this as I have tried other programs but this method found all the other photos which could not be found with other softwares. Thanks a lot!! It does take some time to install ubuntu but at the end of the day it is worth the wait as it finds anything you had on your sd card!

  10. It depends - the corruption could be the entire file and then it wont work, or it may just be a part that's only important to Windows based operating systems and then it might.
  11. Will this work for SD cards that has corrupted files? I can see them i just cannot open them, I believe my sd card is a fake :(

This method might work - it doesnt matter that its from a phone, but this method doesnt work for everything - just when the data is corrupted enough that Windows wont recognize it, but the data is still good when read by a different operating system How hot does the card get? I had one that was hot enough to burn - had a crack in it which must have shorted out something inside.
  15. Open the image file in a program such as "imgburn" which is free and follow the steps the program gives you to burn a CD.
