  3. hello and thanks for this video, well i created a software raid 1 and 5 on my virtual machine with windows server and i need to provoke an error on this raid to show to my colleags how to repair this error but i couldn't make it happening :( (can you help me? how to provoke the error on my raid system)
  4. I have never really seen anyone use software raid running Windows in production.
  5. I have a Win2003 Server with 2 SATA drives in a Raid 1 format.  The primary drive (Drive 0) failed.  The systems appears to still boot and operate from the 2nd drive (Drive 1).  When I replace the failed drive, do I first have to "Remove the mirror" from the failed drive, then physically replace it, then use the steps above for the rebuild of the mirror or is the video only represented of a Raid 5 system?
  6. thank you !
  7. You are suing desktop drives.  Youre asking for trouble.  The problem with using desktop drives is that the firmware on them is programmed to do a self recovery. If your system detects the drive go bad, it isolates the drive until you get it replaced.  However if the drive recovers, the system thinks its a new disk and begins the recovery since the drive is already dynamic.  This is even a bigger problem if you are running a hot spare.  It looks like the whole system is built off desktop grade components.  I hope you have a bullet proof disaster recovery for that client.
  8. I am curious in knowing what type of write performance you get with this system. I've played around with software raid on Windows and the write performance is horrible reads are solid though. Also when dealing with software raid you need to keep the system on a UPS. You do not have this problem with hard ware cards that have a battery cache.
  9. Hi I have a Poweredge 2600. What if the os disk fails what would happen the disk in a raid 5?
  10. Hello,

I have a server 2008 R2 with 4 hard drives with RAID 5. Out of 4 hard drives are 1 TB each while two other hard drives are 2 TB each. One of the hard drives (2TB) is dead now, I disconnect the hard drive and turn on the server which still works and boot up. Once I logged in, I can see a critical error msg saying that RAID is de-graded. I guess its because I disconnected damaged hard drive, right?
Now my problem is that my server is running now on 3 hard drives instead of 4 and now another hard drive is making clicking sound sound sometimes and I am worried now.

Please advice me since it is emergency situation now. How to start and and where to start. Please note that my server is still running and I have already purchased 2 brand new hard drives.

Requesting you to reply ASAP since I am in emergency situation.

    Thanks
  11. yes, dead end.
  12. What would happen if another drive failed while re-syncing? Is that game over?
