This tutorial will show you how to reinstall the factory image (PQService partition) that Acer/Emachines stored on the hard drive, this method is for those people who lost the original MBR (master boot record) that allowed you to access it by pressing ALT+F10 at startup. Sorry for the quality, hope the in video annotations help. If you are not sure you still have the partition, you can check by opening command prompt, and typing DISKPART, then type LIST DISK, then type LIST VOLUMES and one should be listed as PQService and be around 7-12 GB in size. Or by just using the linux program on the boot cd, both will show the partition anyway.

  4. thank you
  5. That was very useful - I used PartedMagic to adjust the partition properties so that it would boot the recovery partition :)
  6. I followed all your instructions, everything went fine til I opened the partion editor. It was blank. Says no devices detected. What should I do?
  7. Thanks a million worked like a charm...!!!
  8. Just to say many thanks for the video. I happened to have a Lubuntu install disk so I used Gparted on that but the Acer eRecovery Management program is now working on the Acer Aspire 5733 and I'm delighted. Once again, many thanks!
  9. Thanks for that !
    Additionnal informations :
I wanted to restore a laptop with preinstallation windows (with qservice partition) after linux.
with your explanation, the laptop doesn't want to boot on qservice partition.
So I tried an another option:
    - Boot on Hiren's boot CD
    - more .... boot HDD1 partition 1
    - boot on qservice partition !
no restore because the software said there is no enought disk space

    - Boot on Hiren's boot CD
    - remove linux partition and swap partition
    - Boot on Hiren's boot CD
    - more .... boot HDD1 partition 1
    - restore your computer with the software
no boot because mbr wants to boot with grub

    - boot on dvd windows 7
    - rescue system
    - console commant
    - cd ..
    - bootrec /FixMbr

    It's working !
  10. Can I use a flashdrive instead of a disk? Im in a startup loop and alt+f10 looks like it wants to work but it just continues to loop on the startup screen after not even being on the screen for 0.5sec. Nothings working for me and I really dont want to throw away my laptop
  11. I had the same issue on my Gateway laptop. This tutorial worked for my Gateway, too. Problem was the hard drive was defective and wouldn't pass drive tests (bad sectors and stuff). I attempted to clone the bad drive to a new one but it failed at 98%. So I took that new drive which was partially cloned at this point and put it in the laptop, threw away the bad drive, and followed your tutorial by putting the Hirens boot on a USB flash drive.

So now I've got both a new hard drive using the PQSERVICE partition from the bad drive and it starts up perfectly. Back to factory fresh condition.
  12. Thank you very much for this video. All steps shown worked. Afterward, however, my machine rebooted continually into the eRecovery partition. I have Windows XP on a very old Acer Aspire One. To fix it, I restarted the machine with the Hiren's Boot CD and opened the Partition Manager as shown in your video. Then I changed the PQSERVICE partition flag back to "diag" and the main partition flag to "boot." Rebooting the machine started it up as if right out of the box. Thanks again.
  13. Can you help me? I tried to to ALT-F10 but now nothing works and "BOOTMGR is missing - Press CTRL-ALT-DEL to restart" appears now. I can't open BIOS or Setup, nothing works. Hope you can help me fix my problem... OBS: It's an Acer Predator from 2012, still my main PC and I would be very sad to lose it now.
  14. no there was on 1 service listed and it was just called emachines I didn't even have to unchecked diagnosis it wasn't check and I didn't have to check boot it was checked already so idk what it could be Maybe because I have windows 7 home premium? ??
  15. I have windows 7 home premium and the management thing doesn't show up at the end I double checked all steps plz help
  16. Thank you! It was very helpful!
  17. Great! Thank you!
  18. Thanks Matt - in my case your tutorial was a 'life saver'. The quality of the tutorial did not prevent me following the process through to a satisfactory conclusion. I appreciate you taking the time to help others like me.
