DIY HALL OF SHAME PAGE: http://www.sertdatarecovery.com/flash-drive-recovery/do-it-yourself-hall-of-shame http://www.sertdatarecovery.com/usb-flash-drive-data-recovery This is a USB data recovery of a SanDisk USB Flash drive that had previously been worked on to recover the data by another company. It was broken where the stem meets the PCB board. (We won't mention that company's name). We do not recommend that you try to repair USB flash drives on your own as this can cause more damage and make flash drive recovery more dificult. In order to repair USB or fix USB drives you have to have the proper tools and experience to be successful. USB flash drive repair may look easy, but according to a poll we have taken on our website, less than 32% of DIY USB repairs are actually successful. In this case finding the traces and then uncovering them is a very tedious task. It is easy to scratch them right off the board, and find yourself in a situation where your data is unrecoverable. SanDisks are currently the most incompatible drives for Flash NAND data recovery, where the chips must be removed and read in a special reader. This is what is required when you get the error "usb flash drive not recognized". You may only get one chance at doing a broken USB stem recovery, so it's recommended to let the pros handle it. I had my USB jump drive connected to a FM transmitter to play songs in my car radio but someone sat on the whole thing while it was laying on the seat. I have my resume and songs over 1000 or more and I thing some family pictures. Please let me know what you can do, Thanks

  16. Amazing!!!!!!! I tried this and recovered over 1 GB of information from last 7 years...supplies used: Hakko 508 Light Duty Soldering Iron, MG Chemicals No Clean Sn63/Pb37 22 gauge 0.032" diam. solder, Philmore 26(7) UL black wire, Jonard Tools WS-5 Adjustable Wire Stripper and Cutter all from Fry's!!!! And all cost less than $36!!!!
  17. It's impossible to recover data off the "single-chip" USB flash drives where there's one chip that has the USB connector and everything on it, right? I had (still have) one that broke years ago, and I was just wondering about this. I don''t need anything on that flash drive anymore. Here's a picture of my Sandisk Cruzer, which is not the broken one but looks similar, and I don't have the broken one handy. (The broken one is physically bigger and doesn't have the extra solder pads. (I bet two of them are for an LED if one was to be installed, but idk about the other six.)) http://imgur.com/5VEQbGg EDIT: And worse still, I think the drive was damaged by static. When I plug it into my Ubuntu netbook and do 'lsusb' nothing shows up. It's as if it wasn't even plugged in.
