Memory cards can become inaccessible for many different reasons. All of these reasons have 1 thing in common. Your data on the memory card becomes locked up. Since the camera or the computer does not recognize your SD card, there is no simple data recovery software that can reconnect you with your lost files. However, there is a solution that can still be useful. It requires bypassing certain components and go straight to the memory source. On memory cards data is stored in NAND flash memory components. These components can be external on SMT designed cards, or embedded on Monolithic memory cards (often seen on Sandisk PNY Sony). The example that we are showcasing today is a 16GB Sandisk Extreme Pro Class 10 memory card that had some very vacation memories stored on it. how to recover corrupted memory card? When we got the card, it simply would not get recognized by any of the devices. Since this device is monolithic, we had to locate the test points that are designated for access of the embedded flash memory. In order to recover corrupted sd card like that we had to solder the device onto an adapter for monolithic devices using the schematic that we had, and extract raw data from the flash memory component. Software portion of the equipment helps us to recreate a virtual function of the controller that assembles RAW data that we extracted into a file structure. Unfortunately, in this case FAT tables were damaged so we could not reconstruct the file structure to the original condition. However, since this was a memory card used inside of the camera, the structure of files was not important at all as long as files were functional. The entire process to recover damaged sd card that we demonstrate in the time-lapse took 3-4 hours to perform. That includes soldering, finding out the perfect configuration to obtain the cleanest read out of the NAND, error correction on extracted data, and data reconstruction. QUESTION PLEASE: If an SD card becomes corrupted from yanking it out of the reader while in use or when just merely plugged in - do the files on the SD card become corrupted also? the reason I ask is iv removed my SD card a few times from reader without properly disconnecting it in windows and worrying some of my thousands of files have become damaged in some way

  16. Great video as always. I don't think people understand why this sort of data recovery can be expensive. The equipment and resources (schematics and recovery programs) can be 1000s of dollars. Do you guys perform any forensic data recovery/analysis? Also would there be any way to recover the data if the controller is shorted?
