If you haven't already checked out the unboxing of this bad boy, hit the annotation on your screen now.  The expansion drive from Seagate comes in one, two and three terabyte storage sizes. I picked up the three terabyte version as I am always storing lots of HD video footage and I'm running out of space to put it all. The design, specs and weight are the same across all models. The design is very minimalistic; it's basically a dark grey box measuring thirteen by twenty-one centimetres at four centimetres in depth. Weighing in at kilogram it isn't overly heavy, but it isn't as light as an SSD. We have the nothing on the sides and only a Seagate logo and LED on the top. On the back we have a vent, power input as well as our mini USB3 port. Both the power supply and USB 3 cables are included with the product. Other than that there is nothing more to the hard drive.  The idea of the product is to add on more storage to your PC and it's excellent at doing just that. The simplest way to explain it is that it's a massive USB stick. There's no software to install, no disks to fiddle about with and most of all no hassle. Just plug in the power and the USB cable into the back of the hard drive. Then plug the USB cable into your computer or laptop. My motherboard on my main editing computer has USB3 so you can plug it in there or if your laptop has a USB 3 connection like this Sony VAIO. If your computer doesn't have a USB3 port, USB3 is backwards compatible with USB 2 ports. Theoretically you can experience transfer rates of up to 5 gigabits per second over USB 3, but only 480 megabits over USB2. That makes USB3 over ten times as fast. But all this is theoretical and you're very unlikely to reach these speeds. Read/Write speeds seem to be pretty good, I ran Crystals Drive mark and here you can see the speeds over USB three. I also ran the test over USB 2 and we can draw the conclusion that the drive is faster over USB 3. To put the size into context, 3 terabytes can hold 3,000 hours of digital video, 750 2-hour movies, 960,000 digital photos or 49,980 hours of music. If you're looking for smaller capacities take a look at the link below to see how much you can store on the different size options available. The final feature of the drive is that it has built-in power management so is energy efficient. Noise level is fairly low however, it does have moving parts and there is a small amount of noise during operation. I've had the hard drive for a month now and I have had no problems so far. I am mainly using it to store Video files as well as using it as a back-up drive for my main computer and laptops. If I had one complaint, it would be that no software is included for backing-up. However this is an expansion drive so back-up isn't its first priority and it works great with Windows back-up and other popular back-up programs. Just to let you know that the drive doesn't work with Mac OS 10 so if you have a mac then this drive isn't best for you. That's all for this review, again if you missed the unboxing, click the link on your screen now, if your new here, don't forget to hit that subscribe button for loads more tech content and I'll see you in the next video. Well, I won't actually see you, but you know what I mean.  UPDATE: The drive can work with Mac OS X if it is re-formatted to OSX Extended (Journaled) [Thanks to Keegan Nolan for that ] Cameras Used: Sony HDR-CX130 Sony HDR-CX250 Audio Equipment: Behringer C1 Behringer Xenyx 1202 Edited on Custom-Built PC: AMD FX 6100 6-core 3.3GHz processor Corsair Vengeance 8GB RAM Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 Motherboard 1TB Western Digital Hard Drive For more info on my PC: http://youtu.be/E0PP7lRwwA8 Software: Sony Vegas (Video Editing) Tags:

  14. RPM???
  15. So I'm a little unclear- will it work with WD (2TB Built in storage) Media Player or not? I've left it plugged in for ages and the WD Media Player with built in storage is just NOT recognising it. I know there will be a differential in speed (backward compatible as the guy said!). I use MAC and like some of the commentators have noted, had partitioned it (as set out in the Edit to the You Tube clip).
  16. This 3TB External Hard Drive should work on my Xbox One since I'm trying to buy a 3TB External Hard Drive at a decent price.
  17. Hey just bought one. I have around a 7 year old computer. It doesnt recognize the USB. Which im not surprised. Is it supposed to turn on once the AC is plugged in however??
