  2. Hi, I have a 'dead' barracuda hard drive I've been trying to resuscitate. Have bought a USB adopter/reader but it just wont read the disk on connecting. No clicking/buzzing sound except the spin sound it makes when powered up. Suggestions???

I have an external hard drive that won't allow me to open my folder which I have inside the external hard drive, I Hoover the mouse over the folder it says empty folder I know I didn't format when I try to open the folder it says file or directory is corrupted or unreadable, I tried doing the chkdsk on command prompt the first time it worked but lately it won't work, can you help me out I have really important data
  4. I know this is an older vid, but thank you. I've been dealing with a WD external that went down on me a week ago. Most I've been able to ascertain is something about a damaged partition table. I'll give the adapter a shot!!

  7. Guess mine falls into that last 5% for failure because I just tried it by switching out that bridge with another one just like it. And still no go. Still just beeps and clicks for about 10 seconds and does nothing.
  8. 95% wow this is a very inaccurate rating. Over the years I have had about 30 or so external hard drives and only 1 or 2 of them were rectified by switching the case or bridge or running naked as you call it PATA or SATA. The drives all normally are faulty long before the controller I will say this ranged from usb1 - usb3 so maybe usb3 host bridges suck more as I have only owned 5 of these and they all still are newer and functional as well as my usb 3.1 and a couple usb2 and firewire still left as well. The rest have all been drive failure.

    I am curious where the 95% number comes from what do you base this off of you are saying 95 of 100 hard drives external fail due to host bridge failure of some sort. Maybe this is so with MAC but with PC based usb/firewire/usb2.0/usb3.0/usb3.1 this has surely not been remotely close.

  10. HELP!! I tried switching the data bridge and it still didn't help. The hard drive makes whining sounds when trying to boot but doesn't pull up. What should I do next? I have a seagate 1TB 2 1/2"

  12. If this is the case with an external HDD, will it still light up and blink? Mine is no longer reading but it does light up and sometimes blinks and partially reads but I can't access it. But most of the time it won't read at all but I still get the light on. It also makes an occasional clicking-like sound when it is trying to function in its blinking mode to access the drive. But it is never able to complete the process. And it also makes my computer not respond when it is plugged in.

    There's a lot of working electronics in landfills - people want new stuff all the time. Did you save your C64? I still have mine - and then some.

  18. I'm a complete newbie. Before I crack open this WD external hard drive and attempt to change the said Sata card, I wanna ask you......I smell burning smell when i plug it in and it doesn't power up at all.....still sata card?
