Using a NAS it is easy to have central backups for your computers and In this video I show you how to setup backups on Windows and Mac OS X (Time machine) using the Synology DS212J NAS. http://www.tech2buzz.com/networking/synology-ds212j-nas-unboxing

Comments

  1. Can the backup of my windows machine be initiated from the Synology
  2. watching this video was just like ringing a call-center.....LOL
  3. for windows backup, there is a option/software to do it the other way, from the NAS point or add the folder from another computer and do the backup, this way not need to install the software on each computer (in my case many pcs)
  4. Hello Ranjit, Thank you for the video. I have the 211j running DSM 4.1 and I have a question: under what account on the Diskstation do you place the folder in which to set Time Machine? Do you use the Admin account, or an individual account that you created? Thanks -
  5. I have setup the basics on the NAS, when I try to use Data Replicator 3 it does not find the synology yet I can access it. Any suggestions? Thanks.
  6. hihihi funny voice
  7. Hi Ranjit, I use Silverkeeper and backed up to a Western Digital My Book but upgraded to the DS212J. But I can't get Silverkeeper to work with it, it states an "ownership & permissions not supported" I don't want to use time machine as I back up different folders. Any ideas? Thanks
  8. So can I Timemachine my MacBook at work whilst having the Synology at home? Or use a NAS as a wireless external HD when you're not at home (but do have an internet connection)? Thanks for the extensive reviews by the way!
  9. my norton 360 keeps giving me the backup icon that i must do a backup but i wont let me backup on my computer it asks me to insert a disk or a removable storage so i disabled backup on my norton 360 can this program fix that so notron can backup to a folder just in case i have to format my system?????
  10. on Windows platform, you inserted an "admin" as username and password to authenticate a backup destination. what if i have 5 persons, alex, allen, albert, angel and angie as users. should i use their username as authenticate name instead of "admin"? if all of them use admin as username, i believe the backup system will not work, am i right?
  11. This video highlights just how convoluted backing up on Windows really is lol. This is why I still do a manual one every few days, yet I just let Time Machine handle the Mac on it's own and never have to worry.
