This is the quick and dirty way to add a Mirrored volume to Windows 7.

  1. Software raid uses cpu performance so higher the cpu the raid functions alot better.Windows raid is already faster than cheap or fake raid or built in mobo cards who are software based.Only high end raid cards perform much faster. But that will cost you alot more...
  2. Wow, a 20 GB drive? LOL
  3. can I make mirror with OS drive???
  4. can you restore the data if windows wont boot? if so how, please. Nice video.
  5. do you need the same exact HDD or SDD and same amount of space as the one your copying from?

So will this mirror my OS (C Drive) and whatever I change it will automatically keep a copy of it?

What is the difference between Software vs Hardware RAID?

    Thank you!

  7. what is that intro?
  8. Using this method, can you RAID1 two drives if one of them has data on it, without losing said data, i.e. have all the data mirrored to the empty drive, sync 'em up and have them continue working as RAID1?
  9. name of the song that the awesome intro tune is extracted from?
What would you call that genre?
Thanks for the windows 7 raid 1 vid. I lost my hard drive and over ten hours of manufactured home setup footage and needed a reliable fix to prevent the scenario from happening again.
  10. is this raid possible with USB flash sticks? pls answer
  11. What software accomplishes this if you have Windows 7 Home? Guess they didnt think Home users had important data to mirror....fucking fucks
  12. Excellent presentation, good sir. :)
  13. So.. i have both back.. but i do not want to lose the data. I want Raid 1 ( i think) How do i get one of them to mirror the other?
  14. What if I take out one of the hard drives on this software RAID and plug it into another computer. Would I still be able to access the data without the Windows RAID setup and without the other hard drive?
  15. if one disks fails later after the implementation how you are notified?
  16. But how do i create disks after disk 0?! i need disk 1 and disk 2 with same size. how do i do that?
  17. how would you do that with usb
  18. I am very interested in this Raid 1 configuration but I have a question about the routine maintenance of your drive configuration. For instance on a regular basis I de-fragment my hard drives and then do Disc Check for bad sectors.... So how do I go about doing that with a raid one configuration would be a very interesting video tutorial,,,
  19. Okay, I get it [but it isn't always easy to "get it", given that many geeky types (NB: not all geeks are geeky types!) speak in shorthand, i.e., they arrogantly subsume an advanced ("insider") level of knowledge], what "mycomputerisjunk" shows us here is a Windows 7 HDD (hard drive) to which he added TWO ADDITIONAL NEW HDD (at about 40 seconds into the video, "mycomputerisjunk" says, in reference to the other two disks that appear in Disk Management, "I just added these disks, two new hard drives, to the system". That sort of leaves no room for wild speculation!

However, there is such a thing as a virtual disk that is created as a partition on a physical disk (via a virtual machine), and such disks look EXACTLY like real physical disks in Disk Management... take a look at the Disk Management pic in the middle of the scroll on this link: http://superuser.com/questions/116983/can-i-setup-a-software-raid-in-windows-7-using-virtual-hard-disks .

Anyway, in the case of "mycomputerisjunk" here, the two added disks (Disks 1 & 2) are indeed physical HDD that are just linked to the pre-existing HDD, Disk 0.

    Thanks again, "mycomputerisjunk"!

  20. I liked this video! In fact, I think it is GREAT! Of course, I boned up a lot on the subject matter before I got here, so I knew quite a lot about RAID arrays, including the polemics of hardware vs software RAID, when I arrived. This succinct (short and sweet) video by "mycomputerisjunk" just put all of my "homework" into perspective/ into practice!

But I do have a DUMMY question: assuming that I have Windows 7 Pro installed on Disk 0, can I add Disks 1 & 2 (for the sake of the argument, we'll say they are identical) and set up the software Raid level 1 (aka mirroring) on this setup WITHOUT having to purchase another Windows 7 license?

Thanks again for a GOOD, practical, to-the-point video!
