Sony Xperia tip: Recover/retrieve readable files inside Sony's Fullbackupdata file from a backup? Did your Xperia phone giving up on you suddenly and you wanted to retrieve all your contacts and SMS messages? Yes you have and you backed it up. Then you tried opening Fullbackupdata using any text editors and found out that it's unreadable! So here's a way on how to retrieve the readable data inside Fullbackupdata on MACOSX 1. After backing up using Sony Bridge for Mac (Just backup Text messages and contacts because multimedia files can be retrieve by default), locate the Fullbackupdata and copy it to Downloads folder. ~/Library/Application Support/Sony Ericsson Bridge for Mac/Backups 2. Open a virtual machine. I use Vmware Fusion 6 http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion-professional or you can use other virtual machines such as Parallels Desktop 9 http://www.parallels.com/products/desktop/ or the Free Open Source Oracle VM VirtualBox http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/virtualbox/downloads/index.html 3. Copy Fullbackupdata to Windows Desktop. (must be in this location only!) 4. Download the Jar file made by Johannes Deml. (Don't forget to say thanks to him) and save it on the Windows Desktop http://ge.tt/64TJmne/v/0 His blog - http://www.johannesdeml.com/ 5. Double click the jar file, a restore.tar file appears. transfer it to MAC Downloads folder and extract it and you can now read the files! http://wakaba.c3.cx/s/apps/unarchiver https://panic.com/coda/

  1. Hi can u please help me? I backed up all of my data from my Sony xperia z3 phone and used the pc companion compatible with that phone. I dropped my phone in the bath and was damaged. I then upgraded to the Sony xperia xz and then the back up wouldn't go onto my new phone bcos there is a new version of the pc companion. I've looked into the backed up files and can access photos and screen shots but there are some important text messages I need recovering for a court matter and I can't access them. I've contacted Sony and they say I need the original phone to restore them on. I wasn't happy at all. Please can you help thanks
