TestDisk is a useful application for retrieving files from a damaged disk/partition. This video will show a quick way to recover files from faulty hard drives. While TestDisk does have other features, I am not well-versed in them. Software used to create video: FFMPEG YouTube Video Editor

  5. For the save destination, why does it not allow saving to an external drive? A friend asked me to help recover files from his 1TB drive. I also have a 1TB ext. drive, but TestDisk only shows directories in the user home folder. That is pretty useless, eh?

  10. Hi, I need help :/ When i go to "advanced" it says no partition available. On a tutorial online it told me to go to choose "Analyze" so i did that but i get the message Partition: Read error. It gives me the option to quick search but when i do it goes terribly slow since it's analyzing almost 60 000 files. Am i doing something wrong? :/ please helpp
  11. Hi Brad,

I have a few concerns that maybe you can help me out with. My hard drive is from an old Dell Laptop which i think it should be Intel partition type but TestDisk identified my devise as EFI GPT. When I to click into the recommended partition type (EFI GPT), it does not show partitions it shows 1 P MS Reserve and 2 P MS Data (they show both twice). I am stuck from here would I be able to recover my files still?

  19. To Arash:
Is the problem that you can't find the drive, or that you get an error when you attempt to copy the files?
If it is the former, make sure that you have mounted the drive, and you know the mount point.
If it is the latter, then send a reply with the error message.

Also, I can't seem to reply to your comment directly, your message lacks a reply button.
