Buy it on Amazon - http://goo.gl/QU4nS7 (affiliate link) - Watch my other MyCloud videos: Full Review - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=078xdmH1DiM Benchmarks - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BD5H1CjmgZY Connecting Multiple Drives - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmYi2oPYr3Y Configuring remote users - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46EV7Yg2wV4 I was asked by a few fans to demonstrate ways to transfer files to the WD My Cloud directly via USB without using the network. You can't hook up a computer directly, but you can attach a drive to the My Cloud and connect to it via SSH or one of the WD apps to transfer files quickly via USB 3.0.

  1. Hi, thanks for uploading WD contents videos and those really helped me a lot.
I have a question. My WD My Cloud is working fine. The thing is my Internet link was down for 2 days due to maintenance and during those days I was unable to access My Files even via LAN.
My PC and WD Drive are connected to Gigabit switch. I was able to see My Cloud under Network Connections; however, when I double clicked to open files, it won't.
Any idea if I could transfer files via LAN without any Internet connection(in case if the link is down again)?
  2. 6.5 mb/s transfer over SSH
    vs 40mb/s over smb...
  3. Wow thank you! I've been trying to turn off the 2.x version for a couple of days now...finally ssh to the rescue! Pretty embarrassing for WD.
  4. 3:12 No that's not the memory size, it's the swap size and it's barely used since the RAM which is 230 mgs is not full.
  5. can you use my cloud via ethernet and usb simultaneously? i was thinking of getting this drive to connect my xbox one s on usb and ethernet on router for everything else like computer, smart phone, and tables.
  6. Here's what I did to migrate my files from my USB drive to my new MyCloud 4TB:
    1. Enabled ssh
    2. Login via ssh
    3. Run the command "apt-get update"
    4. Install the program called screen. "apt-get install screen"
    5. Run the "screen" program.
    6. Rsync the contents of my USB drive to the hard disks. "rsync -avhW --no-compress --progress /nfs/MYUSBDISK/ /nfs/FOLDER/OF/YOUR/CHOICE/"
    7. Hit Ctrl-A-D to exit the "screen".
    8. Run "screen -r" to go back in to the screen to check progress.

WARNING: If you're not comfortable on a linux terminal, please stay away. This may void your warranty. I am not liable to any problems this may cause you. Follow at your own risk.

This will enable you to leave your MyCloud and USB running (in my case for 2 days). Though my USB drive is USB 3, I was only getting 12MB/s speed which is disappointing. :(
  7. pls i need commands for this operation
  8. Can I use this as a hard drive? I have no room left for all my steam games
  9. Accidentally deleted some files, i didnt find recycle bin, pls help, i have access to ssh through putty
  10. Thanks, saved my life
  11. Great video...!! we are able to use and configure the server from www.datasoft.ws thank you :)
  12. Can i use SSh to move folders\files between 2 my cloud, over LAN so i can shutdown my PC/mac?
  13. Hey man, glad to be a member of your channel;I just bought my second wd dl4100, and I would like set users at home to access files through a web page instead of the mobile app, just like twonky but not with the admin password where they can also modify my twonky settings. this would make things easier for those who are not in the same subnet.thanks
  14. Nice, is the Bash and crontab working ?
  15. Would the usb connection work with another WD network hardrive? They are both exactly the same 3tb network harddrives and I want to simply make a backup. Theres about 2tb of files on one so this would be the fastest option to move them. Thanks
  16. Thanks for taking the time to create this video! Very useful to me as I was setting up my NAS! Thanks
  17. Hi Lon, could you pls show us how to add torrent download manager (rTorrent / Transmission) in WD 4TB my cloud in Firmware 4+
  18. Good morning Lon, I have a WD MyCloud device and I have had it for about 4 years. Recently (over the past month) I have not been able to access the drive because I get a message that "my drive is full." However, I cannot get into the drive to off load items that might be clogging up the drive. Do you have any suggestions for me getting into the drive so that I can "clean it up?"
  19. Small correction. I am correct, total RAM is about 230 MB but not 500 MB (500 MB is the swap memory which is consumed from the disk)
  20. good video
