External drives are notorious for failure which flies in to the face of so many people using them as their only data copy. In this situation an older 1.5TB external 2.5" drive is bought in showing no signs of life even with a new cable, this is something to be thankful for! data recovery software: ddrescue http://download.savannah.gnu.org/releases/ddrescue/ eSATA PCIe card: WELLAND EZSTOR EPC-221

  2. would the usb-to-sata-board be repairable you think ?
  3. I can see ants crawling all over the bench (e.g. 6:35).
  4. I wonder if thats more of a Bad I/O board on the USB side.
  5. I had a WD 320 in that wasn't spinning up, So i pulled the board and went to measure voltage and as soon as I did i got a big spark near the power pins on the sata slot. Tripped my PSUs protection. Put it under the microscope and the spindle drive/reg had a huge hole burned though it..
  6. Nice Job, i think you have forgotten to feed your pet ants... :)
  7. Nice!
