  1. I don't like having 10 different apps for things. One app for plugs another app for light bulbs another for light switch and so on.
  2. One of the reasons is that most young people who are interested in smart home can't afford a home. They live in apartments or other rental properties where you can't install these invasive smart home devices. When you can make all these product installation damage free, then you will have some luck with the sales.
  3. The time it's going to take you to open a damn app per product/device in a smart home is longer than just getting up and manually using the dimmer switch, anyways Control 4 is platform thats been around before google and apple and all other bs, it does it all from one app.
  4. To me, not upgrading to a smart home is all about security
  5. The main reasons include unneeded complexity in a home, hacker concerns, a LARGE price tag, they make it easier for the NSA to spy on you, and not to mention it makes people too lazy to even do trivial things like getting up from their bed to flip a light switch.
  6. Mostly everything is dumb in the world because abrahamism religion is anti intellectual and has purged humanity of high technology and thinkers.
  7. Millennials still can't afford their own homes. That's the real reason why.
  8. The Amazon Echo is useless if you own a smartphone.
  9. Smart homes won't reach critical mass for a very long time. The majority of homes in the US are rentals. The majority of landlords are not shelling out that kind of scratch to upgrade rental units. The majority of tenants are not going to invest in upgrading a home they don't own (especially all of the working class folks who don't have the money to spend in the first place) - unless they intend to strip out everything they bought when they leave.

Smart homes will be big in Silicon Valley, Beverly Hills, Manhattan, and other such places. The rest of the Country, not so much. That is, unless the first "C" comes down substantially.
  10. Then your home turns there back on you and turns on and off everything
  11. Just like with smart TVs and cars you always have a security risk and don't trust these companies with your privacy. Also how often would you get a security update is it going to be like Windows; "you must shutdown your car to finish updating".
  12. I don't want some remote server keeping track of my every move and it's too expensive for such a simple task....
  13. I WILL SAY that our homes are more efficient now that many use LED bulbs, even if the LED bulbs we buy are not connected. They have dramatically come down in price and last at least a decade or more with amazing warranties.
  14. you won't track me you globalist scum
  15. Video fails to cover the most important reason: Privacy and Security. Most "smart home" solutions have weak security, profile you and collect massive amounts of data. Worse, their manufacturers blatantly seek to make money out of that data instead of guaranteeing your privacy and security. Only the dumb and the reckless will expose themselves to such risks.
  16. in my contry costs one piece Philips Hue E27 GEN3 Smart LED rgb+white alone without the controllhub 1/5 of the minimum wage.. and that is one bulb... so yeah , te price is way to much to be affordable for a normal size haushold...
  17. A big S and P for me: Security and Privacy. Therefore, never going to get these gimmicks in one of my biggest investment.
  18. Nope, because those things are expensive and does too little, why can't we all let them do it for us, when we want what we want, learning it from us.
  19. Reason #1 all the tech costs too much for too little features
Reason #2 There's no open standards, just a bunch of proprietary standards that don't work with other brands and since no brand currently offers all the I'm looking for, there's no reason to buy it.
  20. Dumb homes can't be hacked....that's smart in my book. ;)
