Thanks for your sharing, very detailed. But, why not deploy 3rd party software? I think these programs are more easy to use. I can recommend a Free trail one to all of you. AOMEI Backupper Server: http://www.backup-utility.com/server.html. All server platforms are supported.

If you need windows sever 2008 R2 activation key, you can go to www.mskeystore.com for help, you will get keys here. Strongly recommend.

Why don't I get the extra option to "add items". Mine let's me ONLY select full backup. Does a full backup include system state?

15 GB of backup vs the old 700 MB or so for Windows 2003. Yikes.

Thanks Bro

Hey fella, thanks for the great info! By the way, there's a new cloud and local backup solution that supports automatic backup of VMware, Hyper-V, Exchange, SQL, files, and the whole Windows Server 2008 R2 system to Amazon S3, and other enterprise-class cloud storage such as Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Storage, FTP/SFTP, etc. I personally quite like it and have deployed this solution for over 20 customers. 30-day fully functionable free trial available. Worth to take a look: http://www.cloudbacko.com

I'm with @smithcl118, why didn't you do an authoritative restore? If your deletion replicated to another DC, its just gonna get erased again when it replicates back
